A method of manufacturing a planet carrier of a gearbox comprises manufacturing a plurality of preforms. Each preform comprises a base portion, a first end portion connected to a first end of the base portion, a second end portion connected to a second end of the base portion, a first side portion connected to a first side of the base portion, a second side portion connected to a second side of the base portion and a top portion. The first and second end portions and the first and second side portions are folded relative to the base portion and the top portion is folded and the adjacent edges of the portions of each preform are secured together to form a support structure. A first ring and a second ring are manufactured. The first and second end portions of each support structure are secured to the first and second rings respectively.

Tip surfaces of aerofoils of a bladed disk are repaired by an additive layer manufacturing process in which a laser beam is directed at the tip surface to create an interaction zone while metallic powder is delivered from powder delivery nozzles onto a locus of delivery of larger area than the interaction zone. The bladed disk and the powder delivery nozzles are situated within a controlled environment enclosure, while a laser generating the laser beam is situated outside the enclosure. The laser interaction zone trajectory is controllable independently of the movement of the powder delivery nozzles and so can execute rapid accelerations and decelerations, and changes of direction, enabling complex space filling scanning patterns to be performed on the tip surface.
Abstract:
Welding apparatus, for example for a workpiece, comprises resistance welding electrode wheels which form a weld seam between components of the workpiece. The formed weld is monitored by an ultrasonic probe which is situated behind the rollers with reference to the weld direction. The ultrasonic probe comprises a linear phased array of piezoelectric elements. The probe enables real-time monitoring of the welding process, with the facility to adjust the process to correct deviations.
Abstract:
Provided herein are x-ray imaging systems, methods of x-radiography, and methods of manufacture of collimators suitable for use in x-ray imaging systems and methods of x-radiography. The systems, methods and devices proposed here may assist in providing for improved magnification of x-rays in an x-ray imaging system with improved image quality compared to known systems. It may find applications in a variety of x-ray applications, for example x-ray CT (Computed Tomography) and 2D projectional radiography for e.g. non-destructing testing purposes.

An apparatus for manufacturing an article from powder material includes a canister, a sorter, a plurality of hoppers and at least one valve. The canister has a predetermined internal shape to define the shape of the powder metal article. The sorter sorts the powder material by the size of the powder particles, the shape of the powder particles and/or the flow characteristics of the powder particles. The hoppers contain powder material with different sizes of powder particles, different shapes of powder particles and/or powder particles with different flow characteristics. The hoppers are arranged to supply the sorted powder material to the canister. The at least one valve controls the proportions of the different powder materials supplied from the one or more of the different hoppers into the canister to control the packing density of the powder material in the canister at all positions in the canister.

A method of electropolishing an internal passageway of a component, wherein the passageway has an inlet and an outlet; including: providing an electrode assembly including a flexible electrode, a shuttle and a guide cable extending between the flexible electrode and the shuttle; inserting the shuttle into the inlet; causing fluid to flow through the passageway to transport the shuttle through the passageway from the inlet towards the outlet; pulling the guide cable through the passageway to position the electrode in the passageway adjacent to a region of the passageway to be polished; and electropolishing the passageway using the electrode while moving the electrode within the passageway.
