    Abstract: A liquid crystal composition including a dioxolane compound represented by the general formula (G1) as a chiral agent is provided. In the general formula (G1), R1 and R2 individually represent any of hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, and an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and having a phenyl group as a substituent; R1 and R2 may be bonded to each other to form a ring; R3 and R4 individually represent any of hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a cycloalkyl group; and R5 to R40 individually represent any of hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms.

    Abstract: Provided is a novel liquid crystal composition that can be used for a variety of liquid crystal devices. The novel liquid crystal composition exhibits a blue phase and includes a binaphthyl compound represented by a general formula (G1) as a chiral agent. In the general formula (G1), Ar2 represents any of an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms and a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms; n is 0 to 3; and one of R and R1 represents a substituent represented by a general formula (G2) and the other represents hydrogen. In the general formula (G2), Ar1 represents any of an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms and a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms; and k is 1 to 3.

    Abstract: Provided is a compound having an indolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole skeleton and a heterocyclic skeleton which are bonded to each other through an arylene group. The heterocyclic skeleton contains an imidazole skeleton, a pyrazine skeleton, a pyrimidine skeleton, a triazole skeleton, or a condensed heteroaromatic ring including any of these heterocycles. The high carrier-transport property and the large band gap of the compound allows the used as a host material of a phosphorescent dopant, leading to the formation of a green to blue emissive phosphorescent light-emitting element having high emission efficiency, low driving voltage, and reduced power consumption.
