Abstract: Provided are an optical device and a method of outputting light using the optical device. The optical device includes a waveguide, a first diffraction grating receiving at least a portion of light incident on the waveguide and a second diffraction grating receiving a light diffracted from the first diffraction grating, wherein the first diffraction grating and the second diffraction grating are provided in or on the waveguide, the light diffracted from the first diffraction grating is diffracted, in three-dimensional directions, from the second diffraction grating, and at least a portion of the light diffracted in the three-dimensional directions is output to an outside of the waveguide.

Abstract: An electronic device for displaying AR includes: an optical engine; a first polarizer; a polarization converter configured to maintain or convert a polarization direction of light of a real scene; a waveguide from which light of a virtual image is output and through which the light of the real scene is transmitted; a focus tunable lens; a second polarizer; and one or more processors. The one or more processors are configured to, during a first period, control the polarization converter to convert a polarization direction of a first light of the real scene such that at least part of the first light of the real scene is blocked by the second polarizer, and during a second period, control the polarization converter to maintain a polarization direction of a second light of the real scene such that the second light of the real scene is transmitted through the second polarizer.

Abstract: An augmented reality (AR) device including a variable focus lens of which a focal length may be changed by adjusting refractive power and adjusting the position of a focus adjustment region of the variable focus lens according to a direction of the user's view. The AR device may obtain an eye vector indicating a direction of the user's view using an eye tracker, adjust a refractive power of a first focus adjustment region of a first variable focus lens to change a focal length for displaying a virtual image, and complementarily adjust a refractive power of a second focus adjustment lens with respect to the adjusted refractive power of the first focus adjustment region.

Abstract: In an electronic device for providing time information and an operation method of the electronic device according to various embodiments, the electronic device includes: a display which displays first time information and second time information; an actuator which outputs vibrations respectively corresponding to the first time information and the second time information; and a processor, wherein the processor can be configured to: check the starting position of a user input in response to sensing the start of the user input on the display; determine, on the basis of the start position, a first region that corresponds to the first time information and a second region that corresponds to the second time information; and control the actuator so that a first vibration that indicates the first time information is output in response to the sensing of a user input in the first region, and a second vibration that indicates the second time information is output in response to the sensing of a user input in the second region.
