A powered vehicle door closing system for producing an auto-closing action to automatically move a latch member from a half-latched position to a fully-latched position, comprises a reversible motor mechanically linked through a linkage to the latch member for powering a final, low-displacement/high-force movement of a vehicle door, a half-latch detection switch such as a limit switch, and a controller for controlling the motor. The controller comprises a full-latch detection section for detecting the fully-latched position of the latch member and a stand-by position detection section for detecting the stand-by position of the linkage. To detect the fully-latched position and the stand-by position, the full-latch detection section and the stand-by position detection section respectively utilize changes in load imparted to the motor.

A door drive device is disclosed, which comprises a guide rail for defining in the body of the vehicle a way along which the slide door moves; first and second pulleys arranged at spaced positions of the vehicle body; an electric drive unit for driving the first pulley; an endless belt put around the first and second pulleys with a slack thereof; a bracket for connecting a portion of the endless belt to the door; and a tensioning device for tensioning the endless belt. Due to provision of the slack of the belt, various advantages are obtained particularly when the door drive device of the invention is used in combination with other door controllers.

An electric system for use in a motor vehicle. The system includes a battery mounted in the vehicle body; a controlling device mounted in the vehicle body and having first and second switches; and a positive/negative switching device mounted in the vehicle body and electrically connected to the battery and the controlling device. The switching device has an output member which includes first and second output parts. The switching device assumes, when the first switch of the controlling device is turned ON, a first condition wherein the first and second output parts are charged positive and negative respectively, and assumes, when the second switch of the controlling device is turned ON, a second condition wherein the first and second output parts are charged negative and positive respectively. First and second electric devices are mounted in the door and have an input member which includes first and second input parts. The first electric device is energized only when the first and second input parts are charged positive and negative respectively, and the second electric device is energized only when the first and second input parts are charged negative and positive respectively. The feeding system further comprises a member for electrically connecting the first and second output parts to the first and second input parts.

Disclosed herein is an automatic door operating system for use in a motor vehicle having a vehicle body and a movable door. The system comprises a first device for allowing the door to assume an open position, a half-latch position and a full-close latched-position, the open position being a position wherein the door opens a door opening defined by the vehicle body, the half-latch position being a position wherein the door is halfly latched to the vehicle body while almost closing the door opening and the full-close latched position being a position wherein the door is fully latched to the vehicle body while fully closing the door opening; an electric door moving device for moving the door between the open position and the full-close latched position when energized; and electric door closing device for shifting the door from the half-latch position to the full-close latched position when energized; a second device controlling the door closing operation of the electric door moving device; a third device for feeding the electric door closing device with electric power; and a fourth device for allowing the second and third devices to cooperate with each other to eliminate a possible trouble which may occur when the door comes to a position adjacent to the half-position.
