    摘要: A method of casting metal strip and equipment therefor where an elongated metal delivery nozzle extending along in a continuous caster with at least one segment having a main portion adapted to deliver molten metal in the casting pool above the nip along the metal delivery nozzle and an end portion adjacent side dams having a reservoir portion with first and second passages adapted to deliver molten metal into a molten metal pool adjacent the side dams while shells are forming on the casting rolls. The first passages are adapted to deliver molten metal shallowly into the casting pool adjacent the side dams, and the second passages adapted to deliver molten metal deeper into the casting pool than the first passages adjacent the side dams to inhibit formation of skulls during the formation of the cast strip during a casting campaign.

The surface roughness of the center portion is tapered across its width, and may be tapered across its width is in stepped zones. The center portion may have surface roughness varied across the surface to correspond to a desired variation in metal shell thickness across the cast strip. The center portion may be at least 60% of the casting roll width, and each edge portion may be up to 7% of the casting roll width.

    摘要: In twin roll casting of steel strip, molten steel is introduced into the nip 16B between parallel casting rolls to create casting pool supported on casting surfaces of the rolls and the rolls are rotated to deliver solidified strip downwardly from the nip. Casting surfaces are textured by a random pattern of discrete projections, which may have an average surface distribution of between 5 and 200 peaks per mm2 and an average height of at least 10 microns. In order to suppress chatter defects, the molten steel also has manganese content of at least 0.55% by weight and a silicon content in the range of 0.1 to 0.35% by weight. The strip is thus capable of moving away from the casting pool at a speed of more than 60 meters per minute without substantial high speed chattering defects.

    摘要: A steel charge and slag forming material is heated in a ladle to form molten steel covered by a slag containing silicon, manganese and calcium oxides. The steel is stirred by injection of an inert gas such as argon or nitrogen to cause silicon/manganese-deoxidation and desulphurization to produce a silicon/manganese killed molten steel. Stirring of the molten steel by the inert gas injection while in contact with slag high in calcium oxide generates low free oxygen levels in the steel and desulphurization to sulphur levels below 0.009%. The slag may subsequently be thickened by lime addition to prevent reversion of sulphur back into the steel and oxygen may be injected into the steel to increase its free oxygen content to produce a steel that is readily castable in a twin roll caster.

The casting surfaces are textured by provision of parallel groove and ridge formations (11) defining V-shaped grooves (12) and ridges (13) with sharp edges (14). The depth (d) of the texture from ridge peak to groove root is in the range 5 to 50 microns and the pitch (p) between the grooves is in the range 100 to 250 microns. The casting surfaces may be peripheral surfaces of casting rolls of a twin roll caster.

    摘要: A method of controlling heat flux between the casting pool and the surfaces of the casting roll in a strip steel casting process includes controlling the concentration of nitrogen in the steel melt. The concentration of nitrogen may be controlled to achieve an operational heat transfer to the casting roll. The beat flux to the casting rolls may be controlled by maintaining the sum of partial pressures calculated from the nitrogen and hydrogen concentrations in the casting pool below 1.15 atmospheres. Decreasing the concentration of nitrogen can increase heat flux at the casting rolls.
