    Abstract: Freight truck castings on freight trucks have an interface between the freight car truck sideframe and a bearing assembly or bearing adapter. The present invention includes a sideframe with a pedestal jaw, placing a bearing assembly inside the pedestal jaw, and forming a pedestal roof in the pedestal jaw in a shape to evenly distribute a load between the pedestal roof and the bearing assembly. The present invention also provides for reducing load concentration on an interface between a pedestal roof and an axle. The present invention provides a sideframe with two pedestal roofs disposed at opposite ends of the sideframe, an axle placed under the pedestal roof, and an angled interface. The angled interface is formed between the pedestal roof and bearing adapter to reduce load concentration.

    Abstract: An improved sideframe has a bolster opening configured to accept a variety of spring group and friction shoe assembly designs. The bolster opening is defined by a bottom section, a top compression member, and two opposing column members and has two column wear plates each secured to the opposing column members. The bottom section of the bolster opening defines a spring seat. The dimensions of the bolster opening of the sideframe allow for a variety of freight car truck suspension systems including the spring group, bolster and friction shoe used therewith.

Such a motion control truck system is able to meet recent, more stringent American Association of Railroads standards, such as M-976, for railcars having a 286,000 lb. gross rail load rating.

    Abstract: A long travel constant contact side bearing for railway cars provides better handling characteristics, achieving improved tracking and curving through use of various combinations of features. Such a long travel side bearing is able to meet recent stringent American Association of Railroads standards, such as M-976. Lowered spring rates, preferably less than 6,000 lb/in., help with stability and reduce set-up sensitivity. Reduced cap and base dimensions and spring design help achieve travel of at least nullnull. A visual inspection windows allows ready inspection. Increased service life and wear characteristics are obtained by addition of hardened wear surfaces, improved tolerances, changes to Grade E steel, increase of top contact surface flatness and coped top surface peripheral edges. Standardized sets of spring components can be mixed and matched, requiring fewer specialty parts. Interchangeability of improper components can be prevented by a combination of keying features and/or spring lockout features.
