Abstract:
The centering device includes a housing and a pair of work centering jaws mounted on respective slide plates movable in the housing by respective racks engaged with a rotatable pinion. The pinion is secured to a vertically oriented shaft connected through a slip-clutch to worm gearing driven by an electric motor. The entire arrangement is shiftable laterally, through one-half the width of the clamping jaw, by a hydraulic actuator. A lower roller support is connected by a linkage to an upper roller support for conjoint movement of the two roller supports in respective opposite directions, and an equalizing linkage assures uniform motion during the height centering operation.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for producing long flat metal strip from a coiled metal strip so that the flat metal strip has uniform straight edges to a high degree of precision. The uncoiled strip is straightened by traction to a degree slightly beyond its elastic limit, laid flat unclamped on a bench, then immobilized on the bench and the edges trimmed by mobile shears movable on a longitudinal guide member lying parallel to the axis of the bench and the metal strip thereon.
Abstract:
A hydraulic sheet-stretching machine with a stretching grip and a stationary counter-grip, with means for the axial adjustment and arresting of these grips, and a stretching cylinder with a cylinder crossbeam and a stretching piston, the machine being erected in a foundation pit having side walls which form a powertransmitting connection between the cylinder crossbeam and the counter-grip, the cylinder crossbeam and the counter-grip being provided with means supporting them against axial thrust, the said supporting means bearing against the side walls of the foundation pit.
Abstract:
The stretcher comprises a frame with two stretch units mounted thereon for adjustment toward and away from each other for accommodating therebetween selected lengths of sheet or plate stock to be stretched or stretch formed. A male die is supported between the units when stretch forming is to be effected. Each unit comprises a linkage rockable by power means about a horizontal pivot extending transversely of the stock and tensioning dimension, and carries a stock gripping head. Rocking of the linkages causes the heads to swing about their pivots in directions away from each other for stretching the stock and toward the frame for laying the stock onto the die. The stretcher is characterized in that the horizontal pivot is adjustable along a path extending generally upwardly and downwardly normal to the plane of the stock, and the units can be latched securely in adjusted positions along the frame. With these adjustments, a preselected exact amount of total stretch can be imparted to the stock.
Abstract:
An aerodynamic component of a gas turbine engine is provided and is fittable to a shell having a shell shape. The aerodynamic component includes a body having a component shape initially deviating from the shell shape prior to an assembly operation in which the aerodynamic component is to be fit to the shell. Deviation of the component shape from the shell shape aids in an establishment of a final desired shape of the aerodynamic component following the assembly operation.
Abstract:
A cut-to-length steel coil processing line has an un-coiling reel, a temper mill, a stretcher leveler, a shearer, and a stacking apparatus arranged to sequentially process a continuous length of sheet metal. The line may be configured such that the continuous length of the sheet metal is directed from the uncoiling reel through the temper mill to the stacking apparatus without processing through the stretcher leveler when a determined thickness of the continuous length of sheet metal is at or below a selected measurement criteria. In the alternative, the line may be configured such that the continuous length of the sheet metal is directed from the uncoiling reel through the stretcher leveler to the stacking apparatus without processing through the temper mill when the determined thickness of the continuous length of sheet metal is greater than the selected measurement criteria.
Abstract:
A method of shot peening according to the present invention includes: placing a jig having an appropriate dimension at one face side of a stamped workpiece; and performing shot peening on another face side of the workpiece in a state where the jig is placed at the one face side of the workpiece, and conforming the workpiece to the jig. At this time, the shot peening may be performed in such a way that residual stresses in the inner side and the outer side of the curved part of the workpiece will become compressive stresses.
Abstract:
An apparatus (31) for forming an annular part (53) comprising a punch (2) having a forming end with an external surface (32) shaped to correspond to the shape of the annular part (53). The apparatus further comprises a clamping arrangement (3, 5) for clamping a large diameter end of a preform (4) and a gripping arrangement (6, 7) for adjustably gripping a small diameter end of the preform (4). An actuation system is provided for facilitating relative coaxial movement only between the punch (2), the clamping arrangement (3, 5) and the gripping arrangement (6, 7).
