摘要: The specification discloses a method and system for retreading tires wherein an uncured gum layer disposed between a vehicle tire carcass and a pre-cured tire tread is vulcanized by RF energy. An annular air bladder is received within the tire carcass and includes an annular conductive grounding strip. A hub is received within the center opening of the tire carcass and connects to the grounding strip. A chamber capable of withstanding high pressures is dimensioned to receive the tire carcass. A shaft is horizontally rotatably disposed in the chamber and is adapted to connect to the hub. Drive structure extends through the wall of the chamber in order to rotate the shaft at a predetermined speed. A source of pressure is provided for pressurizing the interior of the chamber. An RF antenna extends from the chamber to a position adjacent the tire tread when the tire carcass is mounted for rotation about the shaft. A source of RF energy is located outside the chamber. A path is formed for the RF energy through the wall of the chamber in order to energize the antenna, such that RF energy is directed through the tire tread to heat the gum layer to an extent sufficient to vulcanize the tire tread to the tire carcass.

摘要: A method and an apparatus for vulcanization of rubber and rubberized materials in which a strip of material to be vulcanized is continuously transported from one autoclave to a second autoclave and thence to a third autoclave. Material is unrolled from a roll in the first autoclave, passed into and along a plurality of back and forth paths in the second autoclave and thence into the third autoclave where the strip is rolled. In all three autoclaves overpressure is maintained, and the second autoclave is the only one where vulcanization temperature is maintained. Closed strip communication channels are provided between the first and second and the second and third autoclaves. The channels are cooled to avoid passage of the high vulcanization temperatures from the second autoclave to the other autoclaves.

摘要: This invention relates to a method of recapping tires. The tire to be recapped is placed within an envelope with the recap thereabout. A hose runs from inside the envelope to outside the tank in which the tire is placed. Hot water is pumped into the air-tight tank. The rising air and water pressure force the air out of the envelope and press the envelope firmly against the recapped tire to hold the recap securely in place. As water leaks in the envelope cause rejects, the present method advances the art by allowing for an early detection of leaks in the envelope. As well, the usual methods remove the air from the envelope by creating a vacuum in the tank. This method uses the simpler process of creating a higher pressure in the tank to force the air out of the envelope.

摘要: A method of vulcanizing continuous lengths of elastomeric or plastomeric material which comprises driving the material through an enclosure, within which it is subjected to vulcanizing conditions, in the form of a helix, the helix convolutions in part contacting a drive mechanism and in part being freely suspended. Also an apparatus for vulcanizing continuous lengths of flexible material, comprising an enclosure, means for providing therein an atmosphere at an elevated temperature and pressure, spaced pressure-retaining inlet and outlet means for the continuous flexible material, and drive and support means for feeding the material through the enclosure in the form of a helix comprising partially unsupported convolutions. The invention is particularly useful in the vulcanization of hosing formed for example by extrusion or by helical winding or both.

摘要: A method and apparatus for retreading pneumatic tire casings with a prevulcanized rubber tread strip using a heat curable adhesive. The tire is mounted on a tire rim, a layer of the adhesive positioned around the periphery of the tire, and the tread strip is placed over the adhesive. The composite is then positioned within a pressure ring and inflated against the ring so that the tread strip is pressed against the tire casing. Subsequently, the assembly is placed in a heating chamber according to this invention and heated air is circulated about the tire. A plurality of tires may be cured simultaneously.
