摘要： A dialog for entry of uniform resource locators is provided with options, selected by actuation of a radio button, for entering blocks containing a resource identifier, a domain identifier, and a filename extension. The block text is visually distinguished from text entered by single characters from a physical or virtual keyboard. Once entered, the blocks are treated in a unitary manner for the purposes of deletion or substitution, with backspaces or deletes removing the entire block add selection of alternative options replacing the entire block. Character strings entered manually may be compared to the text blocks associated with the options provided and, when a match is identified, replaced with the block form to facilitate form checking of the composed uniform resource locator before returning it to the underlying application.

摘要： A method and apparatus for allowing a user to select one of a plurality of mutually-exclusive options. A set of visual objects are displayed on the display device of a computer system. Each of the visual objects in the set corresponds to one of the mutually-exclusive options. No more than one of the visual objects is displayed in a selected state. The remainder of the visual objects in the set are displayed in an unselected state. The user selects one of the mutually exclusive options by performing a first action that selects one of the visual objects in the set, and then a second action that selects the option associated with the selected visual object. When the user performs the first action, the selected visual object is displayed in an excited state, and the remainder of the visual objects are displayed in a disappointed state. Thus, the user is provided visual feedback that identifies all of the options that will be affected by the user's selection of the option associated with the selected visual object. In one embodiment, when the user performs the second action, the visual object associated with the selected option is displayed in a selected state, and the remainder of the visual objects in the set are displayed in an unselected state. According to one embodiment, the visual objects are radio buttons, an excited radio button is displayed as a happy face and a disappointed radio button is displayed as a sad face.

摘要： A procedure for generating a mirror image of a graphic object on an interactive computer graphics display is disclosed. In the specific example described, a cursor locating device such as a mouse and an all points addressable display are assumed. The graphics object for which the mirror image is to be generated is selected by the pointing cursor. The mirror image function is also selected by the pointing cursor. This causes a default mirror image to be generated on the display along with the original image of the selected graphics object. In addition, a "mirror" with a direction handle and an angle handle is displayed in a window on the display. Either of these handles may be "grabbed" by selecting with the pointing cursor and then rotated to manipulate the generated mirror image and the selected object on the display. When the direction handle is rotated, the generated mirror image and the selected object are simultaneously rotated in the plane of the display. When the angle handle is rotated, the generated mirror image and the selected object are simultaneously stretched or shrunk depending on the direction of rotation to provide a "butterfly" effect.

The operator may select directly from the Command Help Panel overlay, the desired command, or alternately enter the command desired by moving the cursor to the command area of the underlying screen and keying in the command.The method further provides for the system to display a second level of Command Help Panels containing information as to the Parameters and their meaning for commands selected from the first level of the Command Help Panels.The method also advises the operator with other overlaid Help Panels if an invalid command is entered when the system is displaying a first level of Help Panel. The panels that re displayed in addition to advising that the command is not active also advise the operator how to reach the point in the process where the non-active command becomes active from the current state of the process task.
