摘要： Method and apparatus for selectively priming and removing tobacco leaves from a stalk without damage and automatically transferring such leaves onto a relatively large tobacco rack in a random haphazard manner, after which a plurality of frames, each of which includes multiple tines, are attached to the rack so that the tines pierce the tobacco leaves to hold such leaves in position. Thereafter the rack is rotated to an upright position to form a substantially uninterrupted column of tobacco leaves which is placed in a curing barn so that air under controlled conditions of temperature, humidity and pressure is caused to flow through the columns of tobacco leaves for curing the same.

摘要： Improved apparatus for harvesting growing tobacco leaves from a standing tobacco crop is described. The harvester includes means for orienting the tobacco leaves and maintaining such orientation during and after defoliation until deposition of the leaves in container means provided on the harvester. Improved leaf defoliator elements are provided and devices for separating leaves in the picking swath from those above the picking swath are provided. The harvester is designed such as to reduce leaf damage to a minimum. The harvester also includes improved means for effecting directional control thereof relative to the tobacco plants to still further reduce damage to the tobacco leaves.

摘要： Tobacco priming machine which is especially adapted for mounting on a self propelled tobacco harvester. The tobacco priming heads operate in pairs so that the tobacco plant enters between a pair of heads; and the heads are tilted with rearward moving spaced knives between the heads so that the relative speed of any one rearward moving knife and the tobacco stalk is zero but so that the knives move upwards on the stalk as the heads move past it. The conveyors are mounted to carry the tobacco leaves to the rear of the machine where an air-blast delays their free fall off the end of the conveyor into a chute sufficiently so that the heavy, butt-end of each leaf turns downward and so that all leaves falling through the chute and into a bin are oriented in the same stem-first direction.

摘要： An attachment adapted to be mounted on a tractor or other mobile support for traversing rows of tobacco plants to remove the bloom or top portions from the stalks. 摘要： A tobacco harvester comprising a mobile unit with an endless defoliator belt mounted on roller assemblies. There are front and rear upper assemblies and a lower intermediate assembly to provide a lower V-shaped path including a front stripping course, a rear conveyor course and a generally horizontal return course. The belt is provided with openings spaced apart a sufficient distance so that as the belt is travelling diagonally downwardly over its front stripping course each of the stalks will enter one of the openings and the sides of each opening will push the leaves of the stalk downwardly and remove them.
