    摘要: In an electrostatic type ink-jet printer of the type leaving "guard drops" between charged drops, an electronic circuit is provided which generates charge-enabling signals in response to which guard drops are charged. When a sync signal is generated which synchronizes the rotation of a rotary drum with a print signal, one of the charge-enabling signals which is timed to charge an ink drop causes this ink drop to be charged. As compared with the prior art, ink dot misplacement due to the out-of-synchronization which in turn is due to the variations in rotation of the rotary drum can be more finely corrected. In addition, ink dot misplacement can be more precisely corrected by controlling the charge on an ink drop by pulses which have divided periods of that of the sync signals and which are synchronized with the sync signals.

    摘要: In a continuous type ink jet printer having a conventional charging electrode for charging ink drops in accordance with a signal to be recorded on a record receiving media, a pair of deflection electrodes is mounted in a rocker which pivots on a holder mounted on the carrier. As the carrier is accelerated from the stop condition to print speed, the acceleration of the carrier effects rotation of the rocker about the pivot and thus automatic tilt of the deflection electrodes backward from the direction of carrier movement thereby tilting or inclining the electric field formed between the electrodes to compensate for carrier movement. In the preferred form, a simple magnetic type latch is applied to retain the rocker in one position for printing in a first direction, and to enable quick release and reversal, under inertial control, when the carrier moves in the opposite direction.

    摘要: Electronic lead determining circuitry operates to advantage with nonlinear relative movement between a paper record medium and an ink drop projector carrier of ink drop printing apparatus. Electronic lead determining circuitry is arranged for calculating the proper lead times for displacing the normal print enabling signals by factors dependent on the actual carrier positions and the lead for projecting ink drops at the desired positions.Ink drop printing apparatus of the type having a carrier bearing an ink drop projector across a record medium at a velocity relative to the record medium which may be varying substantially--either by design or unintentionally--, and bearing print position location detecting elements, and bearing ink drop projection controlling elements is perfected by controlling electronic circuitry for calculating lead time at a given print position for enabling printing at a predetermined designated print position precisely at the predetermined desired location on the paper. Preferably, a velocity-time profile for the apparatus is chosen for low g-force loading of the moving components, and printing is effective over most of the profile in contradistinction to conventional printing over linear portions only of conventional profiles. Phase locked oscillator loop circuitry is used for tracking the carrier position and adjusting phase, while several alternate lead calculating circuits are arranged in cooperation therewith. Print position and carrier travel direction data are updated in real time as the apparatus operates under data processing control.

    摘要: Recording arrangement in which a row of ink jet nozzles is inclined with respect to the relative motion of a recording surface to permit the variously and selectively charged drops from each nozzle to be deflected by a single pair of planar electrostatic deflection plates common to all nozzles and parallel to the row so that each nozzle is capable of producing marks at regularly spaced locations along a plurality of parallel rows. Also disclosed is a method of determining the angle of inclination. The inclination angle, nozzle spacing, and deflection levels are preferably chosen so that marks can be placed at all possible data points by a single row of nozzles in a single recording pass. The disclosed method also provides for recording in either direction, the use of two or more parallel nozzle rows, and for the interlacing of drop marks at the recording surface.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for reducing the effects of electrostatic charge repulsion and aerodynamic drag on a stream of ink drops in an ink jet printer. This reduction is accomplished by the non-sequential printing of the ink drops as they issue from the nozzle, i.e., drops issuing sequentially from the nozzle are never printed adjacent to one another. This maximizes the inflight distance between successive ink drops, reducing drop interaction. The slight misalignment in the printing which results from the non-sequential printing may be corrected by either displacing the deflection plates a sufficient angle with respect to the print line or by a corrective signal added to the signal input so that the desired slant results with the non-sequential printing.

Unused drops are diverted in the direction of motion during uniform velocity of the ink jet head into the vertical section and into the horizontal section during acceleration/deceleration portions of head motion. A bias potential applied to the vertical drop deflector is removed during acceleration/deceleration to cause unused drops to be directed to the horizontal collector section.

    摘要: An ink jet copier is provided with a document scanner which scans a document to be copied one line at a time producing non-coded binary data. The binary data is inserted in storage in a predetermined arrangement. Stored data is removed from selected predetermined locations in accordance with an algorithm and applied to a plurality of ink jet nozzles arranged in multiple linear arrays about the circumference of a rotating paper drum. The data signals selectively applied to the ink jet printers control the deposition of ink on the paper supported on the rotating drum to cause the reproduction of the original scanned image on a predetermined interlaced basis.

    摘要: Variable alpha/numeric data is printed by a non-impact printing system in registered and aligned relationship with fixed data printed by a master plate cylinder on a moving web at press speeds. A programmed computer provides coded data representative of the variable data in a selected multiple line message format. Character timing signals are generated in response to the coded data and command signals from the computer represent the sequential position of the alpha/numeric data in the multiple line message format. The timing signals are automatically adjusted to accommodate different web speeds and variable form depths by an electrical top of form pulse occurring prior to the mechanical top of form of the master cylinder for each revolution thereof corrected by pulses, the rate of which is dependent on the speed of the web. The variable alpha/numeric data is printed by using the character timing signals to independently control the projection of ink droplet streams from a plurality of ink jet nozzles onto the moving web.
