Abstract: A media guidance application may determine a length of a portion of a media asset that the user has missed and compare the length with a threshold length. If the length is greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a first summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of a first importance. If the length is not greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a second summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of the first importance and the second importance. The media guidance application may generate for display the summary.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for aggressive advertisement of media content. The system, using a prominent attribute of a first media asset, selects, from a plurality of candidate media assets for partial exposure to the user, a second media asset that features the prominent attribute. In response to determining the end to the first scene, the system determines a second attribute of the first scene and plays back a first segment of the second media asset featuring the prominent attribute and the second attribute, and resumes playback of the first media asset. During the resumed playback of the first media asset, the system detects a third attribute of a second scene. In response to determining an end of the second scene, the system plays back a second segment of the second media asset featuring the prominent attribute and the third attribute before resuming playback of the first media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods for displaying content based on event monitoring are disclosed herein. Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for selective audio segment compression for accelerated playback of media assets. A playback speed of the video segment of a media asset is calculated based on the duration of the video segment and a received playback time period. A priority weight for each of the various audio segments is then determined. The audio segments with the lowest priority weight are removed from the group of various audio segments. The system then determines whether the duration of the remaining audio segments exceeds the received playback time period. If so, the system modifies the remaining audio segments by removing another audio segment with the lowest priority weight from the remaining audio segments. The system then rechecks whether the received playback time period is exceeded. If not, the system generates for playback the video segment based on the video playback speed and the remaining audio segments.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein increasing a likelihood above a target threshold of a user watching a target media asset. The method includes selecting a target media asset, identifying a media attribute present in the target media asset that does not match a user profile, computing a percentage of the media attribute present in the target media asset relative to other media attributes present in the target media asset, searching for a first media asset that comprises a first amount of the media attribute less than the percentage by a first threshold. Upon determining that the user consumes the first media asset, repeating the process with a second media asset that comprises a second amount of the media attribute greater than the first threshold and less than the percentage by a second threshold. After the user consumes the second media asset, recommending the target media asset to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for automatically enabling subtitles based on a user profile when a language is spoken with an accent a user has difficulty understanding. For example, a media guidance application may detect a first plurality of user interactions of the user while the given language is being spoken with the accent. Based on the first plurality of interactions, the media guidance application may calculate a first value associated with a user specific level of difficulty indicating how difficult it is for the user to understand the language when spoken with the accent.
