Abstract: Presentation of content on a display device is adaptively modified based on the apparent size of a content area in which the content is presented. A distance between the first user and the display device is determined, as well as an actual size of the content area in which the content is being presented. Based on the distance and the actual size of the content area, an apparent size of the content area is calculated, and presentation of the content is modified based on the apparent size of the content area.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for selecting content providers based on performance scores of the respective content providers. The system monitors the performance of a content provider, where the performance is based on the quality of service for receiving a media content item from the content provider. Based on the monitored performance, the system may determine if an adequate performance is not achievable. In response to determining that an adequate performance is not achievable, the system compares the performance of the content provider to the performance of a second content provider and provides, on the user device, the media content item from the second content provider.

Abstract: Systems and methods for processing speech transcription in a speech processing system are disclosed. Transcriptions of utterances is received and identifications to the transcriptions are assigned. In response to receiving an indication of an erroneous transcribed utterance in at least one of the transcriptions, an audio receiver is automatically activated for receiving a second utterance. In response to receiving the second utterance, an audio file of the second utterance and a corresponding identification of the erroneous transcribed utterance are transmitted to a speech recognition system for a second transcription, and the erroneous transcribed utterance is replaced with the second transcription.

Abstract: A method of modifying playing of media content in a group watch session comprises receiving a command to modify play; determining respective preferences of respective users in the session; and, if it is determined that execution of the command is consistent with the preferences, causing modifying of the playing of at least a portion of the media content based on the received command, e.g., by skipping the portion, jumping to another play position, or rewinding or fast-forwarding through the portion. In this manner, the command is executed, or not executed, based on the preferences of multiple users. The method may include estimating a satisfaction score for the command for the respective users, and comparing the estimated satisfaction scores with a reference score. The portion(s) of the media content for which play is modified may be determined based on the estimated satisfaction scores.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enhancing user experience in accessing media of a certain content type by outputting the media on a nearby device that is better suited for access. For example, a media guidance application may determine that a user is accessing, on his/her smartphone, a digital page (e.g., a website, a newsfeed, etc.) that features embedded content (e.g., photos, movies, music, etc.). In response to determining that the user has navigated to an embedded content, such as a video clip, the media guidance application may determine a device in the vicinity of the user that is better suited than the user's smartphone for playback of the video clip. For example, a nearby smart television may have a larger screen, better sound output, and a better display resolution than the smartphone. As a result, the media guidance application may cause the smart television to output the video clip.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying certain objects within 360-degree content for user interaction. Objects within 360-degree content may be identified, and the corresponding segments of 360-degree content may be assigned a score according to how likely they may be to meet certain criteria, such as the likelihood that the user may interact with the object or its segment. Scores may be assigned in any manner, such as with reference to retrieved user information. In highly scored segments, users may be encouraged to pause the content at that segment, and interact with its objects. Encouragement may take any form, such as highlighting the segment or some component thereof. Likewise, interaction may also take any form, such as the allowing the user to alter the appearance of one or more segment objects in some way. In this manner, increased user interaction with 360-degree video is allowed, increasing viewer interest and engagement.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing an interruption of content presentation on a computing device are provided. In one example, an interruption of presentation of a segment of content on a computing device is detected. An estimated recovery time is determined for the interruption. Based at least in part on the estimated recovery time, a determination is made as to whether to skip the segment or wait to resume presentation of the video segment after the interruption subsides. Based on a result of the determining whether to skip or wait, an instruction to wait or an instruction to skip the segment is generated for presentation via the computing device.

Based on the cumulative mood score being lower than the mood threshold, the system generates for presentation, on the consumer device, one or more media assets with a positive mood score.
