Abstract: Skin graft harvesting systems and methods are disclosed that utilize sensors to automate the harvesting of skin grafts or assist a user in deciding when the skin graft is ready to be harvested. Such systems and methods can reduce the burden of visual observation and ensure greater reliability and consistency of the grafts. The invention is particularly useful with harvesters that rely upon suction and/or heating to raise a plurality of small or “micro” blisters simultaneously.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for treating a tissue site with reduced pressure are described. The system includes a manifold configured to be placed adjacent the tissue site, and a sealing member configured to be placed over the tissue site and the manifold. The system also includes a reduced-pressure source fluidly coupled to the manifold through the sealing member. The system further includes a pouch having an upstream layer having a first thickness, a downstream layer having a second thickness, and an absorbent member enclosed between the upstream layer and the downstream layer. The second thickness is greater than the first thickness. The upstream layer may have a hydrophilic side adjacent the absorbent member, and the downstream layer may have a hydrophobic side adjacent the absorbent member.

Abstract: A wound debridement system includes a wound dressing having an active layer (40) and a wound interface layer (10). The active layer is formed from one or more pneumatic members (45). The pneumatic members are arranged about a film layer (60), by which the pneumatic members are attached to the wound interface layer. A control unit (80) controls a drive unit (70) to intermittently apply pressure to the pneumatic members of the active layer. The pressure applied by the drive unit causes the pneumatic members to expand and contract. This movement of the pneumatic members is transferred to the wound interface layer, causing the wound interface layer to move relative to a tissue site to which the wound dressing is applied. The wound interface layer may be formed having an abrasive wound-facing surface, such that the movement of the wound interface layer causes a mechanical disruption and debridement of debris at the tissue site.

Abstract: A canister for use in administering reduced pressure to a tissue site includes a center body, a first end cap, and a second end cap. The center body includes a first end, second end, and a number of fluidly separate body conduits. The first end cap is connected to the first end of the center body and includes a number of return conduits fluidly connecting one body conduit to another. The first end has a port for receiving a conduit in fluid communication with the tissue site. The second end cap is connected to the second end of the center body and includes a number of return conduits fluidly connecting one body conduit to another. The second end cap has a port for receiving a conduit in fluid communication with a reduced pressure source. The fluid connection between the body conduits and the return conduits creates a continuous, tortuous pathway.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a tissue interface for a reduced pressure tissue treatment system is provided. The method includes foaming a plurality of polymer particles to form a porous polymer. The method also includes sintering the porous polymer to form a sintered porous polymer. The method further includes texturing the sintered porous polymer. A system to provide reduced pressure at a tissue site is provided. The system includes a cover configured to form a seal over the tissue site. The system also includes a reduced-pressure source configured to provide reduced pressure through the cover at the tissue site. The system further includes a tissue interface configured to be disposed underneath the cover at the tissue site and comprising a porous polymer that is formed from one or more polymer particles that may be foamed and textured.

Abstract: A system for applying negative pressure to a joint positioned in a treatment area. The system includes a negative pressure dressing. The negative pressure dressing includes a compressive layer and a sealing layer. The compressive layer includes a first surface and a second, treatment area-facing. The compressive layer further includes a first elongated portion configured to be positioned proximate the joint. The first elongated portion includes a first end and a second end. The compressive layer further includes a second elongated portion spaced from the first elongated portion and configured to be positioned proximate the joint. The second elongated portion includes a first end and a second end. The compressive layer further includes an interconnecting portion extending between the first elongated portion and the second elongated portion. The interconnecting portion is configured to overlie at least a portion of the joint. The compressive layer further includes a plurality of channels formed in the first surface and extending proximate the second surface. The plurality of channels is formed in at least one of the first end and the second end of the first elongated portion and at least one of the first end and the second end of the second elongated portion. The sealing layer is configured to form a seal around a perimeter of the negative pressure dressing.

Abstract: A tissue interface configured to be positioned at a tissue site is provided. The tissue interface may include a first tissue interface layer, a second tissue interface layer, and a bonding layer disposed between the first tissue interface layer and the second tissue interface layer. The bonding layer may couple the first tissue interface layer to the second tissue interface layer. The interface layers may be bonded together lightly such that the bonding layer is sufficiently strong to hold together a first interface layer and a second interface layer, but weak enough to allow the first tissue interface layer to be separated or detached from the second tissue interface layer when pulled apart by a user. This allows a user to add or remove any number of tissue interface layers to adjust the height of the tissue interface 108 in order to accommodate the depth of a tissue site.
