Abstract:
A method and system for enhancing the resolution of a camera are disclosed. For example, a single lens can be placed at a predetermined position and the position of a lens assembly can be adjusted so as to enhance the resolution of the camera. The single lens can then be moved so as to effect focusing of the camera while the position of the lens assembly tends to maintain enhanced resolution thereof.
Abstract:
A recombinant fusion protein comprising a human erythropoietin peptide portion linked to an immunoglobulin peptide portion is described. The fusion protein has a prolonged half-life in vivo in comparison to naturally occurring or recombinant native human erythropoietin. In one embodiment of the invention, the protein has a half-life in vivo at least three fold higher than native human erythropoietin. The fusion protein also exhibits enhanced erythropoietic bioactivity in comparison to native human erythropoietin. In one embodiment, the fusion protein comprises the complete peptide sequence of a human erythropoietin (EPO) molecule and the peptide sequence of an Fc fragment of human immunoglobulin IgG1. The Fc fragment in the fusion protein includes the hinge region, CH2 and CH3 domains of human immunoglobulin IgG1. The EPO molecule may be linked directly to the Fc fragment to avoid extraneous peptide linkers and lessen the risk of an immunogenic response when administered in vivo. In one embodiment the hinge region is a human Fc fragment variant having a non-cysteine residue at amino acid 6. The invention also relates to nucleic acid and amino acid sequences encoding the fusion protein and transfected cell lines and methods for producing the fusion protein. The invention further includes pharmaceutical compositions comprising the fusion protein and methods of using the fusion protein and/or the pharmaceutical compositions, for example to stimulate erythropoiesis in subjects in need of therapy.
Abstract:
An improved lens barrel and related methods are provided. For example, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a lens barrel includes a housing comprising a first section having a first diameter and a second section having a second diameter. A first lens element having a diameter approximately equal to the first diameter of the first section is enclosed by the first section of the housing. A second lens element is provided having a diameter approximately equal to the second diameter of the second section.
Abstract:
A system for monitoring and controlling a load on a downhole component of a well drilling system is disclosed. The system includes: a downhole tool disposed in a drillstring and configured to be movable within a borehole, the drillstring configured to allow a drilling fluid to be advanced therethrough and into the borehole; at least one sensor disposed within the downhole tool for in-situ measurement of at least one physicochemical property of an environment surrounding the downhole tool; and a processor configured to monitor the at least one physicochemical property and at least one of i) provide physicochemical property information to a user during a drilling/steering operation, ii) adjust a load on the downhole component based on the environment information and iii) shut down the system in response to a detection of a measured physicochemical property beyond a selected threshold.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method the includes determining if a collision will occur between a transmission from a first user equipment that uses a persistently assigned uplink resource (such as for VoIP packet transmissions) and a retransmission from a second user equipment that uses a synchronous non-adaptive automatic repeat request procedure (e.g., synchronous, non-adaptive HARQ). If it is determined that a collision will occur, the method dynamically allocates the first user equipment to another uplink resource to avoid the collision, while if it is determined that the collision will not occur, the first user equipment is not dynamically allocated another uplink resource so that the first user equipment sends its transmission using the persistently assigned uplink resource. The embodiments of this invention pertain to both the base station (e.g., an evolved Node-B) and the user equipment.
Abstract:
An exemplary latching mechanism (20) includes a base (22) having two resilient claps (224), a detachable portion (24) having two resilient clasps (244) for engaging with the hooking portions of the base, and an unlatching element (25). The unlatching element defines two engaging slots (258) and is disposed between the base and the detachable portion. The resilient clasps of the detachable portion engage with the hooking portions of the base when the detachable portion is pressed to be latched to the base. The resilient clasps engage in the engaging slots of the unlatching element when the detachable portion is pressed to be detached from the base. Then the detachable portion and the unlatching element together move away from the base. The engagement of the detachable portion and unlatching element makes the at least one resilient clasp deforms and thus disengages from the at least one hooking portion of the base.
Abstract:
An exemplary latching mechanism (20) includes a base (22), a detachable portion (24), a rotatable wheel (25), and a resilient member (28). The base has two resilient hooks (224). The detachable portion has two clasping portion (244) for engaging with the resilient hooks. The rotatable wheel has a plurality of hook openers (256) and is rotatable between two states forced by the detachable portion. The resilient member is disposed between the base and detachable portion for providing elastic force. The at least one clasping portion of the detachable portion engages with the at least one resilient hook of the base and the rotatable wheel is at a second state. The rotatable wheel is rotated to a first state and the at least one resilient hook are pushed to deform by at least one of the hook openers of the rotatable wheel.
Abstract:
An exemplary lid lock mechanism (20) includes a main body (22) and a lid (24). Two resilient hooks (222) and two resisting portions (224) are formed on an inner surface of the main body. The lid includes a lid cap (242). Two hooking portions (246) and two extending pieces (248) are formed on a surface (244) of the lid cap. The hooking portions are engaged with the resilient hooks of the main body when the lid is connected to the main body. To detach the lid from the main body, the hooks of the hooking portions are disengaged from the resilient hooks of the main body.
Abstract:
A fusion protein having a non-immunoglobulin polypeptide having a cysteine residue proximal to the C terminal thereof, and an immunoglobulin component with a mutated hinge region is provided. The mutation comprises a point mutated site corresponding in position to the position in a native hinge region of the cysteine residue located nearest the cysteine residue of the non-Ig component. The distance from the cysteine residue of the non-immunoglobulin polypeptide and any remaining cysteine residues of the mutated hinge region is sufficient to prevent the formation of a disulphide bond therebetween.
Abstract:
This application relates to recombinant human interferon-like proteins. In one embodiment a recombinant protein created by gene shuffling technology is described having enhanced anti-viral and anti-proliferative activities in comparison to naturally occurring human interferon alpha 2b (HuIFN-α2b). The invention encompasses a polynucleotide encoding the protein and recombinant vectors and host cells comprising the polynucleotide. Preferably the polynucleotide is selected from the group of polynucleotides each having a sequence at least 93% identical to SEQ ID: No. 1 and the protein is selected from the group of proteins each having an amino acid sequence at least 85% identical to SEQ ID No: 2. The proteins and compositions comprising the proteins can be used for treatment of conditions responsive to interferon therapy, such as viral diseases and cancer.
