Abstract:
A transfer device includes an endless belt, an external roller, and an internal roller. The external roller is arranged outside of the loop of the endless belt and the inner roller is arranged inside of the loop of the endless belt. The endless belt is sandwiched between the external roller and the internal roller. A surface hardness of the external roller and a surface hardness of the internal roller are 50 degrees or more in an asker C scale. A logarithm (LogR) of volume resistivity of the intermediate transfer member is 10.0 or less.
Abstract:
A belt member faces a plurality of carrying bodies that respectively carry toner images or developers. A plurality of facing members respectively faces the carrying bodies via the belt member. A detaching unit brings at least one of the facing members to face a corresponding carrying body and detaches other facing members from other carrying bodies. A contacting member contacts the belt member to detach the belt member from the other carrying bodies when the detaching unit detaches the other facing members from the other carrying bodies.
Abstract:
A transfer belt is driven by a plurality of supporting rollers. A unit frame supports the supporting rollers in a rotatable manner. At least one of the supporting rollers includes a cylindrical member having a substantially same outer diameter over an entire length thereof. Each end portion of the cylindrical member in a longitudinal direction is supported by the unit frame via a bearing in a rotatable manner.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member configured to bear an image on a surface thereof, a transfer unit configured to transfer the image formed on the surface of the image bearing member onto a recording medium, a bias applying unit configured to apply a bias voltage to the transfer unit to remove a developer adhered on a surface of the transfer unit to the surface of the image bearing member, a detecting unit configured to detect a width of the recording medium in a sheet conveyance direction, and a control unit configured to determine whether a cleaning operation of the transfer unit is performed, based on the width of the recording medium detected by the detecting unit and a number of the recording medium printed.
Abstract:
A cleaning device is used in an image forming apparatus to remove residual attachments including toner and paper powders from a surface of a movable intermediate transfer element onto which toner images are transferred from an image carrier. The cleaning device includes a cleaning brush that contacts the surface of the intermediate transfer element to apply a bias having a predetermined polarity to the toner adhered onto the surface of the intermediate transfer element so as to make uniform a polarity of the toner. The cleaning device further includes a pressing member that contacts the surface of the intermediate transfer element with a predetermined pressure. The pressing member is disposed at a position upstream of the cleaning brush in a direction of movement of the intermediate transfer element.
Abstract:
A belt device for an image forming apparatus, includes an endless belt; a first and second support rollers, each including a rotary shaft, that support the belt with tension; a contacted member that contacts the belt; a shaft displacement device to displace any of the rotary shafts of the support rollers; and a main rotary shaft disposed at a side of the rotary shaft of the first support roller moved by the shaft displacement device along a stretching direction of the stretched surface of the endless belt that the contacted member contacts, relative to a contact portion between the endless belt and the contacted member, and at an opposite side of the contacted member in a direction perpendicular to the stretching direction of the endless belt. As the first support roller and the second roller rotate about the main rotary shaft, the endless belt is separated from the contacted member.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes a transfer member configured to abut against an image carrier for carrying a toner image to form a transfer nip; and a power supply configured to output a bias voltage for transferring the toner image on the image carrier onto a recording medium nipped in the transfer nip. The bias voltage includes a first voltage for transferring the toner image from the image carrier onto the recording medium in a transfer direction and a second voltage having an opposite polarity of the first voltage, the first and the second voltages being alternately output. A time-averaged value of the bias voltage is set to a polarity in the transfer direction and is set in the transfer direction side with respect to a median between a maximum and a minimum of the bias voltage.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes a toner image forming device to form a toner image on a rotatable toner image bearer, a looped belt to carry a recording medium, a support roller to rotate the belt, a pressing member to press the belt against the toner image bearer, a transfer electric field generator to form an electric field to transfer the toner image onto the recording medium, and a contact member to contact an end surface of the belt as the belt moves to one side in a belt width direction. The belt includes a first portion pressed against the toner image bearer by the pressing member and a second portion adjoining the first portion. A relative position of the support roller relative to the toner image bearer and the pressing member is determined such that the second portion of the belt contacts the toner image bearer.
Abstract:
A belt tracking system for controlling the lateral position of a movable belt entrained about a plurality of generally parallel rollers for moving in a trans-axial direction perpendicular to an axial direction in which the rollers extend parallel to each other includes a roller shaft, a slidable member, and a rotation restrictor. The roller shaft extends outward in the axial direction from an axial end of a specific one of the plurality of generally parallel rollers. The slidable member is slidably disposed around the roller shaft to move along the roller shaft as the belt moves laterally outward in the axial direction. The rotation restrictor is disposed adjacent to the slidable member to restrict rotation of the slidable member around the roller shaft.
Abstract:
A recording medium conveying device includes an endless belt to convey a recording medium, a plurality of support rollers around which the belt is wound, to rotate the belt, and a cleaner in contact with the belt to clean the belt. One of the plurality of support rollers is a separation support roller, mounted on a tiltable rotary shaft, to separate the recording medium from the belt using a curvature of the separation support roller. The separation support roller includes a contact member to contact an edge of the belt when the belt laterally moves toward one side of the belt.
