A first cartridge and a second cartridge are detachably mounted in a housing of the image-forming device. The first cartridge is formed thicker than the second cartridge in a thickness direction orthogonal to a mounting direction of the first and second cartridges. The housing has a cartridge-accommodating section that accommodates the first and second cartridges. The cartridge-accommodating section includes first and second accommodating sections that are disposed continuously along the mounting direction and that are partly displaced with respect to each other in the thickness direction. The second accommodating section is disposed upstream of the first accommodating section with respect to the mounting direction and is formed thicker than the first cartridge and thinner than both the first and second cartridges together when the first and second cartridges are accommodated in the cartridge-accommodating section. The first accommodating section is formed thicker than the first and second cartridges together when the first and second cartridges are accommodated in the cartridge-accommodating section.

An image forming apparatus includes a first developing cartridge and a first photosensitive cartridge. The first developing cartridge is removably mounted in the first photosensitive cartridge and includes a toner hopper, a supply roller and a developing roller. The first photosensitive cartridge includes a photosensitive drum, a charger provided at a position adjacent to the photosensitive drum, a first wall provided adjacent to the supply roller, the toner hopper, and the developing roller when the first developing cartridge is mounted in the photosensitive cartridge, the first wall including a first opening, and a second wall which faces the first wall and is provided adjacent to the charger, the second wall including a second opening on an opposite side of the charger from the photosensitive drum. A portion of a wall of the first developing cartridge projects through the first opening in the first wall of the first photosensitive cartridge.

A charger includes a frame and a cover member, together defining an internal space. A discharge wire for producing a discharge for a photosensitive drum is disposed within the internal space. A cleaner for cleaning the discharge wire is also disposed within the internal space. When the cover member is open, a user accesses the cleaner and slides the cleaner on the discharge wire, thereby cleaning the discharge wire.

An image-forming device includes: a main body; at least one photosensitive member; a plurality of developing units; a transferring unit; a first holding unit; and a guiding unit. The photosensitive member has a support shaft. Each developing unit has a developer-accommodating section that accommodates developer. The developer-accommodating section has an opening in a top side thereof. Each developing unit further has a developer-carrying member that is disposed near the opening of the developer-accommodating section. The first holding unit holds the plurality of developing units that are arranged in a row along a first removal direction. The first removal direction is orthogonal to the support shaft of the photosensitive member. The first holding unit is accommodated at a first accommodating position in the main body. The guiding unit enables the first holding unit to move between the first accommodating position and a first removal position that is separate from the first accommodating position in the first removal direction.

A developing cartridge that maintains a pressing condition to press a developer carrier against the image carrier is described. The developing cartridge may include a coil spring that presses the developer carrier against the image carrier. The coil spring may include a handle that transmits a pressing force to the coil spring via the contacting member. By doing so, every time the developing cartridge is replaced, a new coil spring and handle can be provided for the color laser printer with the developing cartridge attached. Therefore, a constant pressure by the coil spring can be continuously maintained. Thus, a preferable pressure condition of the developer carrier against the image carrier can be continuously maintained.
Abstract:
A system that provides a compact and functional image forming device that can securely supply a driving force to the developing cartridge is described. A developing cartridge is described that can be mounted to the image forming device in an insertable/removable manner. A passive coupling gear and cylinder externally project in the width direction of the collar member allowing secure supply of a driving force through connection of the passive coupling gear to the coupling input shaft. In addition, the amount of movement of the coupling input shaft to connect with the passive coupling gear can be minimized, thereby allowing for a miniaturization of the color laser printer. Furthermore, in addition to the original function, the function of being guided by the left guiding groove for the passive coupling gear and the function of being guided by the right groove for the cylinder can be added.

A developing cartridge that includes: a developing roller having a developing roller gear and a driving force transmitting unit; and an electrode member for applying a bias to a developing roller shaft. A direction of a driving force applied to the developing roller gear at an engagement portion between the developing roller gear and a transmission gear when the developing roller gear and the transmission gear rotate, and a direction of a force applied to the electrode member at a contact portion between a power supply member and the electrode member when the power supply member presses on the electrode member are substantially equal to a direction orthogonal to the axial direction of the developing roller shaft.

An image forming unit includes a process unit including image carrier holder units arranged in one direction and held in the process unit and developing cartridges provided in correspondence with the image carrier holder units and configured to be removably mounted in the image carrier holder units. Each image carrier holder unit includes an image carrier, a charger configured to charge the image carrier, a pair of side frames disposed to hold the image carrier therebetween, a center frame disposed between the side frames, the center frame being configured to support the charger, and a first support portion disposed on the center frame. Each developing cartridge includes a developer frame, a developer carrier provided in the developer frame, and a supported portion provided in the developer frame and configured to face the center frame when the developing cartridge is mounted in the image carrier holder unit.
