In another embodiment, a method to optimize channel partitioning during channel estimation processing in an ultra-wide band (UWB) OFDM wireless communications network includes creating a plurality of windows across a time-frequency channel plane, adaptively sizing the plurality of windows, and merging the plurality of windows.
