    摘要: A reconfigurable multichannel receiver may selectively operate in increased throughput modes and/or increased range modes. In some embodiments, the receiver may select two or more antennas from a plurality of spatially diverse antennas to receive more than one subchannel of a wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) channel. Maximum-ratio combining may be performed on corresponding symbol-modulated subcarriers from the two or more antennas, and a single OFDM symbol may be generated from contributions from the subchannels received by the two or more antennas. In other embodiments, more than one subchannel of a wideband OFDM channel may be received through a single antenna selected from a plurality of spatially diverse antennas. In other embodiments, a single subchannel may be received by a plurality of spatially diverse antennas and maximum-ratio combining may be performed on corresponding symbol-modulated subcarriers received by the antennas.

    摘要: A frame format provides for wideband wireless local area network communications and informs narrower-band communication units when the channels are occupied by wider-band communication units. In some embodiments, the frame format includes a channelization field identifying channels that are used for communicating subsequent wideband fields of a packet, and a wideband-header field communicated on the identified channels. The wideband-header field may identify sub-fields that may be present in the wideband-header field, and may identify the presence of a wideband-data field. A long-compatibility field may be present that provides protection at the MAC level. The long-compatibility field may transport MAC frames that may include medium-reservation information compatible with narrower-band communication units.

A system may include a plurality of antenna modules, each of the antenna modules comprising an array of antenna elements coupled to an RF beamforming circuit, the RF beamforming circuit to adjust phase shifts associated with the antenna elements to generate an antenna beam associated with the antenna module; a delay circuit coupled to each of the antenna modules; and a central beamforming module coupled to each of the delay circuits, the central beamforming module to control the antenna beam associated with each of the antenna modules and further to adjust signal delays associated with the delay circuits, wherein the arrays of antenna elements of the antenna modules combine to operate as a composite antenna beamforming array.
