Abstract: A medical device system may include a control unit comprising one or more processors that implement an algorithm to enhance images obtained by a medical device. The one or more processing boards perform the steps of: receiving a first image from the first viewing element; determining a current illumination value of the first image; determining a first difference between the current illumination value and a target high illumination value if the current illumination value is greater than the target high illumination value; determining a second difference between the current illumination value and a target low illumination value if the current illumination value is less than the target low illumination value; generating a new illumination value, using at least one of the first difference and the second difference; and converting the new illumination value to a first voltage value for application to one or more illuminators of the medical device.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a medical device assembly. The medical device assembly described herein may include a medical device and a control unit. The medical device may include an imaging apparatus, an electrical wire coupled to the imaging apparatus, an illumination device, an illumination connector coupled to the illumination device, and a connector coupled to the electrical wire and the illumination connector. The control unit may include an electrical interface, a light source, and a port, wherein the port is configured to receive the connector to operatively couple the electrical wire to the electrical interface, and to operatively couple the illumination connector to the light source, the connector being removably attachable to the port.

Abstract: A method is provided for enhancing video images in a medical device. The method includes receiving a first image frame and a second image frame from an image sensor. First image sub-blocks are generated by dividing the first image frame. Second image sub-blocks are generated by dividing the second image frame based on the first image sub-blocks. Histogram data of the first image sub-blocks is generated. Histogram data of the second image sub-blocks is generated based on the histogram data of the first image sub-blocks. A histogram enhanced image frame is generated based on the histogram data of the second image sub-blocks. A video image stream is generated based on the histogram enhanced image frame.
