Abstract: A magnetic tape reading apparatus comprises an acquisition unit that acquires information on linearity of a servo pattern to be recorded on a servo band of a magnetic tape, a reading element unit in which at least two reading elements each of which reads data from a specific track region included in the magnetic tape are disposed, a servo reading element that reads the servo pattern, a control unit that performs control of positioning the reading element unit, a derivation unit that derives a deviation amount, and an extraction unit that extracts data recorded on the reading target track by performing a waveform equalization process on each reading result for the reading elements in accordance with the deviation amount.

Abstract: A magnetic tape includes a magnetic layer having ferromagnetic powder and a binder on a non-magnetic support. The total thickness of the magnetic tape is less than equal to 5.30 μm. The magnetic layer includes a timing-based servo pattern. The center line average surface roughness Ra measured regarding the surface of the magnetic layer is less than or equal to 1.8 nm. One or more components selected from a fatty acid and a fatty acid amide are included in the magnetic layer, and the C—H derived C concentration calculated from the C—H peak area ratio of C1s spectra obtained by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis performed on the surface of the magnetic layer at a photoelectron take-off angle of 10 degrees is greater than or equal to 45 atom %.

Abstract: A first straight line region and a second straight line region of the straight line region pair are inclined in opposite directions with respect to a first imaginary straight line. The first straight line region has a steeper inclined angle with respect to the first imaginary straight line than the second straight line region. Positions of both ends of the first straight line region and positions of both ends of the second straight line region are aligned in a direction corresponding to a width direction of a magnetic tape. A plurality of gap patterns deviate from each other by a predetermined interval in a direction corresponding to a longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape, between the gap patterns adjacent to each other along the direction corresponding to the width direction of the magnetic tape. A substrate is inclined with respect to the first imaginary straight line.
