    Abstract: A magnetic tape reading apparatus comprises an acquisition unit that acquires information on linearity of a servo pattern to be recorded on a servo band of a magnetic tape, a reading element unit in which at least two reading elements each of which reads data from a specific track region included in the magnetic tape are disposed, a servo reading element that reads the servo pattern, a control unit that performs control of positioning the reading element unit, a derivation unit that derives a deviation amount, and an extraction unit that extracts data recorded on the reading target track by performing a waveform equalization process on each reading result for the reading elements in accordance with the deviation amount.

    Abstract: The magnetic tape device includes: a magnetic tape; and a reproducing head, in which the reproducing head is a TMR head, the magnetic tape includes a non-magnetic support, and a magnetic layer including ferromagnetic powder, a binding agent, and fatty acid ester on the non-magnetic support, a full width at half maximum of spacing distribution measured by optical interferometry regarding a surface of the magnetic layer before performing a vacuum heating with respect to the magnetic tape is greater than 0 nm and equal to or smaller than 7.0 nm, a full width at half maximum of spacing distribution measured after performing the vacuum heating is greater than 0 nm and equal to or smaller than 7.0 nm, and a difference between a spacing measured by optical interferometry regarding the surface of the magnetic layer after performing the vacuum heating with respect to the magnetic tape and a spacing measured before performing the vacuum heating is greater than 0 nm and equal to or smaller than 9.0 nm.

    Abstract: A magnetic tape includes a magnetic layer having ferromagnetic powder and a binder on a non-magnetic support. The total thickness of the magnetic tape is less than equal to 5.30 μm. The magnetic layer includes a timing-based servo pattern. The center line average surface roughness Ra measured regarding the surface of the magnetic layer is less than or equal to 1.8 nm. One or more components selected from a fatty acid and a fatty acid amide are included in the magnetic layer, and the C—H derived C concentration calculated from the C—H peak area ratio of C1s spectra obtained by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis performed on the surface of the magnetic layer at a photoelectron take-off angle of 10 degrees is greater than or equal to 45 atom %.
