    摘要: An apparatus for restricting a copy of digital information is provided with a detecting device for detecting a first watermark, which is buried in the digital information and comprises a first signal generated on the basis of a first rule. A burying device buries a second watermark, which comprises a second signal generated on the basis of a second rule and having a structure different from that of the first signal, into the digital information if the first watermark is detected by the detecting device. A recording apparatus is provided with: an inputting device for inputting the digital information; the above mentioned copy restricting apparatus; and a recording device for recording the digital information in which the second watermark is buried by the burying device.

    摘要: In a data compression method using dictionaries, there are adopted a dynamic dictionary and a static dictionary to prevent the deterioration in the data compression ratio in the leading portion of the input data which cannot be efficiently compressed using the dynamic dictionary. Moreover, the configuration removes the disadvantage of the deterioration in the data compression ratio because character strings having a low appearance frequency occupy a large portion of the dictionary. Data to be compressed is inputted via an input unit to be decomposed into input bit strings 202. Using the input bit string as a retrieval key, a bit string retrieval is conducted through the static dictionary by a decision unit and a reference unit. According to a result from comparison between the input bit string and a bit string of the static dictionary and a result from the retrieval by a retrieving unit through the dynamic dictionary, whether or not the input bit string is to be registered to the dynamic dictionary is determined. For registration of the input bit string, an index is added thereto by a register unit before the registration. The input bit string or an index matching the string is outputted as compressed data.

An electronic document is divided into constituent elements and an electronic signature is affixed to an arbitrary subset of a set including all the constituent elements. Otherwise, an electronic signature is affixed to data obtained by binding each of the constituent elements to information specifying the relationship between a respective one of the constituent elements and the structure of the electronic document. Otherwise, the hash values of the respective constituent elements are calculated and an electronic signature is affixed to data obtained by binding the calculated hash values together. Otherwise, random numbers generated for the respective constituent elements are bound together, then the hash values of the respective random-numbered constituent elements are calculated, and then an electronic signature is affixed to data obtained by binding the calculated hash values together.

Furthermore, providing a signature history storage service apparatus mitigates the signature history storage burden on a signer.

With this method employed, even in a program permitting no recording, the temporary recording/reproducing is permitted under a condition of being limited to the time-shift recording on the receiving side.
