The present invention broadly comprises a blade for a torque converter including an outer edge arranged to conform to an inner surface of a shell in the torque converter and a first tab extending from the outer edge. A portion of the first tab is rotated about an axis extending from the outer edge and arranged to compressively engage a first slot arranged proximate a first circumference of the shell. In some aspects, the first tab includes an integral extended portion and the extended portion is at least partially tangential to the outer edge and arranged to compressively engage the first slot. The first tab is arranged to prevent axial movement of the blade with respect to the inner surface. The present invention also broadly comprises a torque converter including a shell having a first circumference and a first slot arranged proximate the first circumference, a blade having an outer edge conforming to an inner surface of the shell and a first tab extending from the outer edge and compressively engaged in the first slot.

The opening is operatively arranged to accept at least a portion of a lever spring for a clutch assembly and at least a portion of a protrusion for a torque-transmitting element in the assembly. The present invention also broadly comprises a clutch housing including a first and second protrusions extending from a substantially cylindrical housing wall, axially displaced from each other, and arranged to engage a torque-transmitting element in a clutch assembly. The first protrusion is arranged to receive torque from the element and to support the clutch housing in an axial direction. The second protrusion is arranged to preload a lever spring. The present invention further includes a clutch assembly with the preceding clutch housings.

The opening is arranged to accept at least a portion of a lever spring for a clutch assembly. The lever spring includes at least one protrusion, extending from an outer circumference of the spring, with top and bottom sides. The opening defines edges in the housing wall axially displaced one to the other. The edges are arranged to be contacted by the top and bottom sides, respectively. In some aspects, contact with edges is arranged to provide forces in two, opposite axial directions. In some aspects, the housing is arranged for installation in a clutch assembly with a bearing and a clutch and the forces are for a pre-load force for the assembly bearing or with respect to an axial force generated during operation of the clutch.

A dual automatic mechanically actuated wet clutch device, for operation within a fluid tight housing, for a dual input shaft transmission that includes tightly specified average spacing between friction plate surfaces where the average spacing is selected from between about 0.05 mm to about 0.25 mm in an open position. The clutch has at least first and second independently actuatable clutch portions, and at least one clutch pack in the first or second clutch portion; and mechanical apparatus provided to move friction plates in at least one of the clutch portions toward each other so that they engage. The invention also includes apparatus and methods for adjusting and maintaining the spacing between the friction plate surfaces.
