摘要： An electrophotographic image forming apparatus on which a process cartridge is detachably mountable forms an image on a recording medium, and has a main body electrical contact electrically connected to a cartridge electrical contact when the cartridge is mounted on an apparatus main body, an electrically grounded electrically conductive discharge preventing member for effecting discharge between it and a charged foreign substance to thereby prevent discharge from occurring between the foreign substance and the main body electrical contact when the foreign substance has entered the apparatus main body on which the process cartridge is not mounted. The discharge preventing member is movable between a first position located in the entry route of the cartridge and a second position retracted from the first position and located outside the entry route. The apparatus also has an actuating member for moving the discharge preventing member from the first to the second position.

摘要： A process cartridge is detachably mountable to both of an image forming apparatus of the electrode-rod-detection type and an image forming apparatus of the electrode-plate-detection type. The process cartridge has a photosensitive drum, a developing roller for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive drum, and a toner containing portion containing therein a toner to be used to develop the electrostatic latent image by the developing roller. The process cartridge further has an antenna rod having one end thereof exposed from a cartridge frame, and first to third electrodes including electrode plates. As a result, the process cartridge has the ability to be detachably mountable to both of the main body of the image forming apparatus of the electrode-rod-detection type and the main body of the image forming apparatus of the electrode-plate-detection type.

Values of the electrostatic capacitance respectively generated by the measuring electrode member and the reference electrode member are different when voltage is impressed on the measuring electrode member and the reference electrode member with the process cartridge inserted in the apparatus main body.

摘要： A process cartridge detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum; charging means for electrically charging the drum; developing means for developing a latent image formed on the drum; a grounding contact for electrically grounding the drum to the main assembly; a developing bias contact for receiving, from the main assembly, a developing bias to be applied to the developing means; a charging bias contact for receiving, from the main assembly, a charging bias to be applied to the charging means; and a cartridge coupling member for receiving, from the main assembly, driving force for rotating the drum, the cartridge coupling member being engaged with a main assembly coupling member of the apparatus when the main assembly coupling member is rotated after the process cartridge is mounted. The cartridge coupling member is substantially coaxial with the drum adjacent one longitudinal end of the drum. The grounding, developing bias and charging bias contacts are disposed adjacent a longitudinal end of the drum opposite from the cartridge coupling member. The developing bias and charging bias contacts are each disposed on a side of the process cartridge that extends in a longitudinal direction, to one and the other side of the drum. The grounding contact is substantially coaxial with the drum.

The main assembly includes an output contact movable between electrical connecting and retracted positions, a displaceable member for moving the output contact, and an elastic function member for elastically urging the displaceable member to urge the output contact toward the retracted position. The cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a process device actable on the drum, and a movable operation member engageable with a main-assembly fixed engageable member and with the displaceable member to move the output contact from the retracted to the electrical connecting position against the bias of the elastic function member, in interrelation with the movement of the displaceable member, after the engagement with the fixed engageable member when the cartridge is inserted into the main assembly. The cartridge also includes an input electrical contact.
