摘要： A process cartridge has an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a charging roller for charging the drum, a spacer movable between a separation position for separating the roller from the drum and a contact position for contacting the roller to the drum, a rotatable receiving gear for receiving a driving force produced by rotation of the drum to move the spacer from the separation position to the contact position, and a rotatable transmission gear engaged with the receiving gear and the spacer to transmit the force from the receiving gear to the spacer to move the spacer from the separation position to the contact position, wherein play is provide in the engagement portion between the receiving gear and the transmission gear so that they can be freely rotated relative to each other by a predetermined angle, whereby the drum is not reversely rotated when the roller is separated from the drum.

摘要： A developing apparatus for an image forming apparatus includes a magnetic sealing member having an arcuate surface and having a magnetic property, and which is opposed to an outer surface of a developing roller with a gap therebetween and a projected surface having a magnetic property projected from an upstream end of the arcuate surface toward upstream with respect to a peripheral moving direction of the developing roller, and which is more remote from an outer surface of the developing roller than the arcuate surface; and a sheet for preventing the magnetic developer from leaking between the developing device frame and the developing roller. The sheet is mounted to an upstream end of a developing device frame with respect to the moving direction and contacted to the developing roller so as to cover at least a part of the projected surface.

摘要： A developing apparatus for an image forming apparatus includes a developing roller for carrying a magnetic developer; a developing device frame, having an opening for exposing a part of the developing roller, for rotatably supporting the developing roller; a magnetic sealing member, mounted to the developing device frame at a longitudinal end portion, for sealing a gap between the developing device frame and the developing roller against leakage of the magnetic developer, wherein the magnetic sealing member includes an arcuate surface which has a magnetic property and which is opposed to an outer surface of the developing roller with a gap therebetween and a projected surface which has a magnetic property and which is projected from an upstream end of the arcuate surface toward upstream with respect to a peripheral moving direction of the developing roller and which is remoter from an outer surface of the developing roller than the arcuate surface; a sheet for preventing the magnetic developer from leaking through between the developing device frame and the developing roller, the sheet being mounted to an upstream end of the developing device frame with respect to the moving direction and contacted to the developing roller so as to cover at least a part of the projected surface.

摘要： A process cartridge is detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The main assembly includes an output contact movable between electrical connecting and retracted positions, a displaceable member for moving the output contact, and an elastic function member for elastically urging the displaceable member to urge the output contact toward the retracted position. The cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a process device actable on the drum, and a movable operation member engageable with a main-assembly fixed engageable member and with the displaceable member to move the output contact from the retracted to the electrical connecting position against the bias of the elastic function member, in interrelation with the movement of the displaceable member, after the engagement with the fixed engageable member when the cartridge is inserted into the main assembly. The cartridge also includes an input electrical contact.

摘要： A developing device develops an electrostatic latent image formed on an electrophotographic photosensitive member. The developing device is mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The developing device includes a developer carrying member for feeding a developer to the electrophotographic photosensitive member to develop the electrostatic latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, a first electroconductive portion, a second electroconductive portion for cooperating with the first electroconductive portion to provide an electrostatic capacity, a first electrical contact for receiving a voltage to be applied to the first electroconductive portion from the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, and a second electrical contact for transmitting, to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, an electric signal corresponding to an electrostatic capacity between the first electroconductive portion and the second electroconductive portion when a voltage is applied to the first electroconductive portion to detect a remaining amount of the developer by the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus.

摘要： An electrophotographic image forming apparatus on which a process cartridge is detachably mountable forms an image on a recording medium, and has a main body electrical contact electrically connected to a cartridge electrical contact when the cartridge is mounted on an apparatus main body, an electrically grounded electrically conductive discharge preventing member for effecting discharge between it and a charged foreign substance to thereby prevent discharge from occurring between the foreign substance and the main body electrical contact when the foreign substance has entered the apparatus main body on which the process cartridge is not mounted. The discharge preventing member is movable between a first position located in the entry route of the cartridge and a second position retracted from the first position and located outside the entry route. The apparatus also has an actuating member for moving the discharge preventing member from the first to the second position.
