    摘要: Structure of a cross universal joint is achieved in which the fact that an excessive torque was applied to a universal joint due to a collision accident or mishandling can be easily determined afterwards. Protrusions 20, which are straight lines as seen from the outside surface sides of linking arm sections 15c of a yoke 12c, are formed on the outside surfaces of the linking arm sections 15c. When an excessive torque acts and the linking arm sections 15c are plastically deformed, the protrusions 20 change from a straight line to a non-straight line. From this change it is possible to easily confirm that an excessive torque has been applied to a cross universal joint that includes this yoke 12c. A locking capsule 47 that is fastened to a bracket 3 on the column side is held inside a locking hole 45 of a bracket 11b on the vehicle side that is fastened to the vehicle body by a plurality of connecting members that shear during a secondary collision. An energy absorbing member 53 is placed between the locking capsule 47 and the bracket 11b on the vehicle side. This energy absorbing member 53 is formed by bending a plastically deformable wire, and allows forward displacement of the locking capsule while absorbing impact energy that is applied to the locking capsule by plastically deforming during a secondary collision.

The portion of the metal plate of a bracket 11 on the vehicle side on both sides of a locking hole 45 fits between the bottom surfaces of the eave sections 56 and the top surface of the bracket 12b on the column side so as to be able to break away during a secondary collision.

With the installation plate section 31 connected and fastened to the top plate section 23, the portion of a bracket on the vehicle side 11 that surrounds the locking cutout section 28 is elastically held between the top surface of the top plate section 23 and the bottom surface of the restraining plate section 33, and the bracket 12b on the column side is supported by the bracket 11 on the vehicle side so as to be able to displace in the forward direction during a secondary collision.

    摘要: A steering system has a steering shaft carrying at its end a steering wheel, and a steering column through which the steering shaft is extended. A structure for mounting the steering column on the body of a vehicle, comprises:a support bracket having mounting web portions for securing the support bracket to the body, the support bracket being fixed to the outer peripheral surface of the steering column, each mounting web portion having a notch opening in one end edge thereof;a clamping plate associated with each mounting web portion, the clamping plate being formed by bending a metallic sheet into substantially a U-shape so as to provide upper and lower flat plate portions, the flat plate portions being provided with apertures and having slip layers of an electrically insulating material provided on the inner opposing surfaces thereof contacting the associated mounting web portion, each clamping plate being fitted on the mounting web portion by sliding from the side adjacent the steering wheel; andbolts which are driven into threaded holes in the body through the apertures in the clamping plates and the notches of the mounting web portions so as to secure the support bracket to the body. A narrow winding portion integral with the clamping plate extends from a main part of the coating plate, and a free end of the winding portion is electrically connected to the mounting web portion.

    摘要: A yoke for universal joint is composed of a cylindrical coupling tube formed by pressing a metal plate and having a slit in a radial direction and serrate grooves on the internal periphery; a pair of flanges integrally formed at an end of the coupling tube and positioned on both sides of the slit; and a coupling arm formed by pressing a metal plate. One of the flanges has a screw hole, while the other flange has a hole, coaxial with the screw hole, for passing a bolt to be screwed into the screw hole. The coupling arm has a penetrating hole in the base portion, and mutually coaxial circular holes at its opposite ends. The yoke is assembled by fitting the other end of the coupling tube into the penetrating hole in the base portion, and connecting the other end of the coupling tube with the base portion of the coupling arm.
