Abstract:
A child resistant closure comprising outer and inner nested closure members each of which has a base wall on a peripheral skirt with sets of lugs on the inner surface of the outer closure member and on the outer surface of the inner closure member which are adapted to be engaged when the members are moved axially toward one another. The outer surface of the base wall of the inner closure member is provided with a plurality of ramps and depressions and the inner surface of the base wall of the outer closure member is formed with a plurality of integral spring fingers. When the closure is applied, the springs fingers engage the depressions and orient the outer closure member and inner closure member preventing inadvertent engagement of the lugs by any top load. When the outer closure member is rotated relative to the inner closure member without bringing the lugs thereof into engagement, the spring fingers slip over the ramps allowing the outer closure member to rotate with respect to the inner closure member.
Abstract:
A tamper indicating package comprising a container having a finish with external threads thereon and a plastic closure comprising a base wall and a peripheral skirt. The closure has a tamper indicating band connected to the skirt along a weakened line and has at least one flange extending upwardly and inwardly for engagement with a retaining bead on the container. The flange is hinged to the band along a first hinge at one end extending circumferentially of the band and along a second hinge at an angle to the first hinge. The other end of the flange circumferentially spaced with respect to the second hinge is free such that when the closure is applied to the container the flange flexes over the retaining bead on the container until the free edge of the flange extends beneath the retaining bead on the container and when the closure is rotated to remove the closure, the flange prevents the band from being removed and causes severing of the band along the weakened line.

A tamper indicating child-resistant package comprising a container having a body and a neck, said neck having at least one retaining bead with a notch therein and a closure comprising a base wall and a peripheral wall having at least one pair of locking lugs generally diametrically opposite to one another such that the closure can be rotated to orient one of the locking lugs with a notch permitting the closure to be removed by an upward force in the area of the notch to produce a tipping movement. The peripheral wall of the closure has an axially extending band connected to the lower end of the peripheral wall by a weakened line and the band has an inner regular polygonal surface. The container has a portion at the area of juncture of the neck and body with an external polygonal configuration complementary to the polygonal configuration on the interior of the band such that the closure can be applied with the lug in unoriented position to the notch by an axial movement with the lug snapping over the retaining bead, bringing the polygonal configuration of the band into engagement with the polygonal configuration of the shoulder on the container such that the closure cannot be removed without breaking the weakened line.
Abstract:
A convertible child-resistant closure comprises an outer closure and an inner resilient liner. When applied to a cooperating container in the child-resistant mode, the resilient liner is distorted between the container rim and abutments formed on the outer closure panel, thereby providing an upward locking bias to the closure. The upper surface of the liner includes depressions adapted to receive the abutments only when the liner and the outer closure are in a particular relative angular orientation. To convert the assembly to a closure which is not child-resistant, the liner is removed and reoriented so that the abutments are received within the depressions, thereby preventing the abutments from distorting the liner to provide the locking bias.
