Abstract: A reclosable child resistant package including a container having an open end and retention means on the internal surface of the container, adjacent the open end; and a closure having a top panel with a sidewall depending from the top panel with retention means on an exterior surface of the closure sidewall that cooperates with retention means in the container. The retention means may consist of cooperating screw threads on the closure sidewall and in the container near its open end. These threads are also used for opening the package. If alternate retention means are used to retain the closure within the container it may be necessary to include alternate opening means to elevate the closure from the container as the closure is rotated. When the package is closed the closure has little or no exposed vertical surface but the panel top surface on the closure is exposed. The package is opened by grasping the container with one hand and pressing the palm of the other hand against the exposed surface of the closure top panel, for frictional engagement, while rotating the palm in the counter clockwise direction to loosen and remove the closure. The top panel may have a slot, suitable for inserting a tool such as a coin, which may be used for opening and or closing the package. Sealing of the package is provided by continuous contact between an external surface on the closure with an internal surface in the container.

Abstract: A child resistant closure which can be readily opened by an adult comprising an outer closure member having a base wall, a peripheral skirt and a bead on the outer closure member for retaining an inner closure member for limited axially outward movement relative to the outer closure member. A push tab is hinged to the base wall of the outer closure member and projects through an opening in the base wall of the outer closure member. The push tab can be depressed into a plurality of spaces provided between circumferentially spaced ramp-type projections or castellations on the inner closure member. One of the castellations is provided with a stop surface such that when the push tab is depressed in that location, as indicated by indicia on the outer closure member and inner closure member, the closure can be unthreaded from a container to remove the closure. Further, the outer closure member can also be removed by axial movement of the outer closure member relative to the inner closure member to engage ribs and additional projections on the respective outer closure member and inner closure member so that the closure can be rotated to unthread it from a container.

Abstract: A two-piece child-resistant closure having a molded plastic inner component and a molded plastic outer component, the inner component having a double ended liner retention bead that projects radially inwardly from the inside of an annular skirt portion to retain a sealing liner in a position that is adjacent to the underside of a top panel portion thereof without the need for an adhesive, the inner portion further having a helically extending thread that projects radially inwardly from the annular skirt portion, the thread having an uppermost portion with a 0.degree. helical angle that is positioned between the spaced apart ends of the double ended liner retention bead to reduce the required vertical spacing between the liner retention bead and the start of the helical thread to permit the closure to be applied to a container with a standard finish portion. The inner component is made by a process in which it is removed form the molding tooling by unscrewing for maximum resistance to stripping from the finish of the container to which it is to be applied.

Abstract: A child resistant package comprising an open-mouth container having a plurality of circumferentially spaced projections extending radially outwardly adjacent the open end thereof, each projection defines a notch facing downwardly, and a closure having a top panel and an annular skirt depending from the periphery of the top panel, and a plurality of radially inwardly extending and circumferentially spaced locking lugs on the inner surface of the skirt. The locking lugs are adapted to engage the notches in the projections on the container. A tamper-indicating member comprises an annular ring having portions extending between the lower edge of the skirt of the closure and a portion of the container and operable to normally limit axial movement of the closure. The ring offers a visual indication that the contents have not been tampered with and the ring must be removed before the closure can be removed. The container includes a specially designed inclined surface provided with dual slopes. One slope extends radially outwardly in a circumferential direction and the other slope extends downwardly and radially inwardly and terminates in a locking notch. The closure can be applied to the container when the tamper-indicating member is in position through rotation of the closure causing the cam lugs on the closure to engage the inclined surface and flex the skirt of the closure outwardly to thereby direct the cam lugs into engagement with the locking notch.

Abstract: A two-piece child-resistant closure comprises nested inner and outer closure members. Sets of lugs on the inner surface of the outer member panel and the outer surface of the inner member panel engage each other when the outer members rotated for application of the closure to a container, but cam past each other on inclined surfaces when the outer closure is rotated in the removal direction. The panel of the outer closure member is resiliently deformable to bring the noncamming surfaces of the lugs into engagement for removal of the closure.

Abstract: Disclosed is a reclosable child resistant package having a front panel and a back panel that are connected together at their bottom, left, and right sides. The tops of these panels have closing means preferably consisting of a projection extending from the interior surface, near the top, of the front panel and a cooperating depression in the interior surface, near the top, of the back panel. The package is closed by squeezing the tops of the two panels together, forcing the projection into the cooperating depression. Part of the child resistant feature requires that there is insufficient material above said closing means to grasp for opening the package. The package is opened by moving the front panel with respect to the back panel, as indicated. This movement causes the panels to flex removing a portion of the projection from the depression. This causes the tops of the panels to separate a sufficient amount so as to allow one to grasp the tops of the panels to pull them apart, to fully open the package. The required movement of the panels with respect to each other for package opening is the main child resistant feature. This feature is enhanced by requiring that the package be gripped in a specific location when moving these panels.

Abstract: A child resistant closure comprising an outer shell having a base wall and a peripheral skirt and an inner shell having a base wall and a peripheral skirt telescoped within the outer shell. The inner surface of the base wall of the outer shell and the outer surface of the base wall of the inner shell have circumferentially spaced radial projections which are adapted to interengage upon relative axial movement between the shells. The top wall of the inner shell includes indentations or grooves between the projections which are at a small acute angle with respect to the plane of the top wall of the inner shell. The inner surface of the outer shell has at least one inclined indentation or surface which extends radially and is also at an acute angle to the plane of the base wall of the outer shell. When the outer shell is tilted in the direction of the inclined surface, the lugs projecting from the area of the inclined surface of the base wall of the outer shell engage the grooves in the outer surface of the base wall of the inner shell allowing the inner shell to be unscrewed from the container on which the closure is provided. The closure can be also operated by moving the outer shell axially toward the inner shell to engage the projections on the outer shell and inner shell.

Abstract: A dual chamber closure and dual closure chamber package including dual chambers which have outlets and a common wall between the outlets. The closure comprises a first portion that is snapped into position on the outlets and a second portion hinged to the first portion and providing a cover closing the outlets.
