A method of and an apparatus for recording an image on a recording medium. A heat-sensitive sheet having a light-transmissive base sheet provided with a heat-fusible supercooled substance layer is made to abut a copy original such that the heat-fusible supercooled substance layer faces the original image to be copied while flashlight is projected onto the base sheet of the heat-sensitive sheet. Thus, the image portion of the copy original to be copied absorbs the light transmitted through the heat-sensitive sheet and thereby generates heat so that an adhesive area containing a pattern corresponding to the original image is formed on the supercooled substance layer. After the heat-sensitive sheet has been removed from the copy original, such an adhesive area is transferred to the recording medium owing to the adhesiveness of the adhesive area.

An image recording and/or reproducing apparatus including a recording unit having a recording driving mechanism for recording a plurality of images in the form of electrostatic pattern on different regions of a photosensitive member, a reading unit having a beam source and capable of scanning the photosensitive member by an electron beam so as to convert the recorded pattern into electric signals, and a connecting member for connecting the recording unit and the reading unit without causing any change in the states of these units. This apparatus makes it possible to record and/or to reproduce images with a high image quality. The connecting member includes a container accommodating the recording unit and the reading unit. An ink-jet recording method employs a light-tonable recording liquid capable of being toned by light radiation, the liquid preferably containing a recording agent having an absorption peak within a certain wavelength range, an ammonium salt of an organic boron, and a liquid medium. The hue or the density of a desired portion of the light-tonable recording liquid on a recording member is changed by radiating toning light onto that portion. The recording member may have colored portions of an image previously recorded with a light-tonable recording liquid or colored portions just formed in the current recording. Toning light is radiated onto a desired position of the recording region of the member while varying the intensity and/or the period of light radiation in accordance with an information signal. Thus, toning may provide various half-tones or may render the toned portion of the recording liquid colorless, thereby erasing the relevant colored portions. Selective erasure may be followed by re-recording on the same position of the recording region, thereby effecting correction. All-surface erasure allows the recording member to be reused.

An image recording apparatus includes a rotatable transfer member and a plurality of latent image bearing members which are in rolling press-contact with the transfer member at different positions. Around the latent image bearing members, are provided latent image forming devices and devices for developing the latent image. The developed images formed on the respective latent image bearing members are transferred by pressure onto a recording material or onto the transfer member at the respective nips formed between the transfer member and one of the latent image bearing members. With this apparatus, duplex image recording, overprint or superimposing recording, and/or high speed recording can be accomplished.
