    Abstract: A hearing system comprises a programming device comprising a) a feedback path analyzer for providing an estimate of a feedback path from an output transducer to an input transducer of a hearing device, and b) a programming interface allowing the exchange of data between the programming device and the hearing device. The programming device is configured to receive corresponding input and output time segments of an electric input signal and of a processed output signal, respectively, of the hearing device, via the programming interface, and the feedback path analyzer is configured to determine the estimate of the feedback path based on the input and output time segments. The invention may e.g. be used for the fitting of hearing devices, e.g. hearing aids, to a particular use or user.

    Abstract: A hearing system comprises respective input and output transducers operationally coupled via a forward path comprising a configurable output combination unit having first and second signal inputs and a signal output. The first and second signal inputs are a signal of the forward path, and an output probe signal, respectively, and the output signal is electrically connected to the output transducer and configurable to consist of either of the first or second signal inputs, or a mixture thereof. The hearing system further comprises a configurable probe signal generator for generating the output probe signal, an adaptive feedback estimation unit for generating an estimate of an unintended feedback path, and a control unit for generating a control signal for controlling the output probe signal, which may comprise a perfect or almost perfect sequence and/or an almost perfect sweep sequence.

    Abstract: A hearing device comprises a feedback-path estimation unit, which adaptively estimates a feedback path from an output transducer to an input transducer, and sets an adaptation-step size of an adaptive feedback-path estimation algorithm in dependence on an estimate of a background-noise spectrum. The feedback-path estimation unit provides an estimation-control signal for generating an acoustic feedback-path estimation signal having an level spectrum, which has at least one first frequency band with non-zero level and at least one second frequency band with zero level or with a non-zero level smaller than the level in the first frequency band and smaller than a background-noise level in the respective second frequency band. Background noise is detected in the second frequency band while the feedback-path estimation signal is provided. The background-noise level in the at least one first frequency band is estimated for obtaining the estimate of the background-noise spectrum. A corresponding method is described. The method is e.g. useful for estimating a feedback path during fitting of a hearing device, e.g. a hearing aid, to a particular user's needs.
