摘要: Methods and systems are disclosed for selecting performance settings for one or more wireless technologies, presenting a graphical representation of the relative performance of the wireless technologies for each performance setting, and allowing a selection of at least one of the performance settings. The performance settings can be associated with wireless technologies, wireless technologies, or location types. Performance characteristics may include noise, power, quality, speed, and interference. The performance setting of one wireless technology may be manually adjusted and the impact on other wireless technologies can be a graphical displayed or numerical display. Adjustments can be made by a user or a platform designer. In a preset mode, a user make select between preset performance settings that are graphically displayed. In an advanced mode, adjustments to wireless performance characteristics of all the wireless interfaces on a specific platform may be selectively made with the relative effects on other wireless interfaces graphically displayed.

摘要: A system and method is disclosed for the automatic enforcement of wireless-enabled device usage policies within a predetermined environment. A wireless usage policy manager enforces predetermined usage policies by automatically disabling or limiting the operation of wireless-enabled devices as they enter the predetermined boundaries of the wireless policy management environment. Information elements of existing wireless communications protocols are appended or extended and then communicated to subject wireless devices, and then implemented at the time of handover to limit their behavior. Similar information elements are communicated and implemented when the wireless-enabled devices exit the predetermined boundaries of the wireless policy management environment to automatically restore their prior operational state without user actions.

摘要: Wireless functionality is provided to desktop information handling systems by a module sized to fit as a storage drive bay component, such as a flexbay. The wireless functionality includes wireless personal area networking that supports peripherals, such as Ultra-Wideband or Bluetooth devices, or local area networking. An antenna for wireless processing components is disposed at the front portion of the module to provide optimal reception. A standardized information handling system interface is disposed at the rear of the module located to connect with the information handling system chassis. Additional functionality may alternatively be included in the module, such as a 12-in 1 card reader having interfaces at the front of the module to interact with memory cards or other devices.

摘要: A system and method is disclosed for decoupling and simulcasting metadata from digitized audio and/or video content to facilitate an on-line purchase of a copy of the content. One or more digitized audio/video content streams containing metadata are intercepted prior to being played. Metadata associated with the audio/video content within the intercepted stream is identified, decoupled, and wirelessly simulcasted by a metadata simulcaster such that it can be automatically received, stored and enacted upon by similarly enabled wireless devices to facilitate on-line purchases of the associated content, in electronic or physical form, at the present or a later time. Audio content metadata received via satellite radio is similarly intercepted by a mobile metadata simulcaster and locally simulcast via a wireless protocol such as, but not limited to, Bluetooth to similarly enabled wireless devices to facilitate on-line purchases of audio content through a wireless wide area network connection to the Internet.

摘要: A processor-oriented system, such as a microcontroller or computer system, supports a programmable address decoder used to redirect accesses to unassigned I/O address space. I/O accesses to unassigned addresses or address holes can be directed to multiple busses. If a programmable switch associated with the programmable address decoder is set to a first predetermined value, then certain I/O addresses are directed to a first bus. If the programmable switch associated with the programmable address decoder is set to a second predetermined value, then certain I/O addresses are directed to a second bus. If the first bus is coupled to PC/AT compatible peripheral devices and the second bus is coupled to non-PC/AT compatible devices, then the I/O address redirection capability selectively supports a PC/AT compatible mode or a non-PC/AT compatible mode. Certain integrated devices coupled to the second bus can be bypassed or disabled as desired to allow redirection of I/O to external devices coupled to the first bus.

摘要: A system and method for increasing the performance of read cycles in instrumentation systems having multiple interconnected buses by converting the read cycles into write cycles and taking advantage of the write posting and FIFO buffering capabilities of the bus interface logic between each of the interconnected buses. When a requestor device desires to initiate a read cycle of memory situated on the same or a different bus, the requestor device first creates a data transfer packet containing information about the desired data. The requestor device then generates a write cycle to DMA logic situated near the memory desired to be read. The DMA logic uses the 32 bit address provided from the requestor device, to obtain information about the transfer and then initiates DMA write cycles to perform the desired transfer. Since each bus interface bridge includes write posting capability, the write operation can be performed much more efficiently than a read operation. The write posting capability requires that only (one) bus be tied up at a given time, and thus write cycles perform much more efficiently. The present invention is also capable of operating in either direction.
