    摘要: An image forming apparatus has a transfer region located between a first belt and a second belt, which belts are respectively spanned and tensioned around a plurality of rollers. A total length of the first belt is substantially equal to integral multiples of a total length of the second belt. Certain portions of the belts are deformed via plastic deformation caused by contacting the plurality of rollers. The rollers are arranged so that deformed portions of the belts do not overlap each other in the transfer region.

    摘要: An image density control method for an image forming apparatus of the type forming a latent image of a document image on a photoconductive element and developing the latent image by a toner to produce a toner image by an electrophotographic procedure. A background pattern whose density is substantially the same as the background density of a document, i.e., a light pattern is illuminated to electrostatically form a latent image thereof on the photoconductive element. The latent image is developed by the toner, and the density of the resultant toner image is optically sensed by an image density sensor. A change in background density due to contamination or an increase in background potential, for example, is detected. Based on the detected change in background density, a quantity of light for imagewise exposure or similar factor dictating the developing ability is corrected, i.e., it is controlled to the light side if the density has been shifted to the dark side. The detection of the background density and the control for correction are effected only when the charge retaining ability of the photoconductive element is stable.

    摘要: An image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic copying apparatus has a latent image carrier and a cleaning unit which can be drawn together out of the apparatus housing. After the latent image carrier and the cleaning unit has been pulled out, the cleaning unit is angularly moved around the latent image carrier to direct its cleaning position or slot upwardly. Then, the latent image carrier and the cleaning unit are separated from each other. Since the cleaning slot is directed upwardly, toner collected in the cleaning unit will not be spilled or scattered around through the cleaning slot. The cleaning unit may be coupled with a toner cartridge for collecting toner from the cleaning unit.
