Terminal fittings (10) are insertable into the cavities (41) and deform the locks (43) in a deforming direction (DD) that intersects the inserting and withdrawing directions (IWD) of the terminal fitting (10). The locks (43) then restore and locking surfaces (64) of the locks (43) lock the terminal fittings (10) in the cavities (41). Each locking surface (64) has an upper locking surface (58) furthest into the cavity (41) and a lower locking surface (61). The lower locking surface (61) is at an obtuse angle to the withdrawing direction of the terminal fitting (10), whereas an angle of the upper locking surface (58) to the withdrawing direction is smaller than the angle of the lower locking surface (61).

A retainer (30) is mounted in the receptacle (22) and has a preventing plate (31) that projects into a deformation permitting spaces (25) for preventing resilient deformation of locks (24) and doubly locking the terminal fittings (10) in the housing (20). A mating housing (60) can be fit into the receptacle (22) and pushes the retainer (30) back to a pushed-in position while resiliently compressing a spring (43). When the housing (60) is withdrawn from the receptacle (22), the retainer (30) is pushed back by a resilient restoring force of the spring (43). During this time, insertion holes (32) of the retainer (30) move along tabs (12) of the terminal fittings (10) for automatically correcting misalignment.

A retainer (30) can be held at a partial or full locking position in the retainer insertion hole (27). The retainer (30) has pairs of resilient locks (33) and fixed locks (35) for the corresponding cavities (23). The resilient locks (33) project into the cavities (23) when the retainer (30) is at the partial locking position while the fixed locks (35) project into the cavities,(23) when the retainer (30) is at the full locking position. The resilient locks (33) are wider than the cavities (23) and hence continue engaging the terminal fittings (10) while the retainer (30) is moved from the partial locking position to the full locking position. Thus, the terminal fittings (10) are locked doubly by the fixed locks (33) and parts of the resilient locks (33) when the retainer (30) is at the full locking position.

    摘要: A spring holder 25 containing coiled springs 41 is installed in a female housing 11. When a male housing 1 and this female housing 11 are fitted together, a locking arm 20 rises over a stopping protrusion 7, a restraining wall 39 simultaneously engages a locking claw 22, and the coiled springs are compressed. The locking claw 22 makes contact with a contacting face of the restraining wall 39, this contacting face being a tapered face 40. When the locking arm 20 is about to pass over the stopping protrusion 7 to return to its original position, the restraining wall 39 receives a spring force F from the coiled springs and pushes the locking arm 20. A component force F1 in a returning direction of the locking arm 20 is obtained from this spring force F due to the tapered face 40. The component force F1 and the returning force of the locking arm 20 itself cause the locking arm 20 to return smoothly, and the locking arm 20 thus engages with the stopping protrusion 7.
