    摘要： Female terminal fittings (30) are insertable from behind into cavities (11) in a female housing (10). A slanted guide surface (22) is formed at the peripheral rear edge of each cavity (11) for guiding the female terminal fitting (30) into the cavity (11) and is slanted at an obtuse angle to an inserting direction of the female terminal fitting (30). A stabilizer-inserting groove (20) is formed in a surface of the cavity (11) and has an open rear end into which a stabilizer (47) of the female terminal fitting (30) is insertable. A preventing surface (27) is provided at the peripheral rear edge of the cavity (11) and abuts the stabilizer (47) when the female terminal fitting (30) is inserted in an improper posture. An angle of the preventing surface (27) to the inserting direction is less than an angle of the slanted guide surface (22).

A rear end of an outer wall (37) of the female terminal fitting (30) extending along widthwise direction is embossed to project out, thereby forming a locking projection (52) with a vertex (A) at its front end. The female terminal fitting (30) is inserted into the female housing (10) and a lock (13) in the female housing (10) engages the locking projection (52). The locking projection (52) is more outward than an imaginary triangular pyramid (X) formed by connecting the vertex (A) at the front end, a pair of base end points (B) at the rear edge, and an outward-projecting end point (C).

Openings (64) formed by removing a mold for forming locking surfaces (58) of the locks (43) engageable with the female terminals are so formed in the female housing as to be open forward. Each lock (43) is supported at both front and rear ends, and a section thereof projecting more forward than the locking surface (58) is connected with side surfaces (64b, 64c) of the circumferential surfaces of the corresponding opening (64) extending along a deforming direction of the lock (43).

Terminal fittings (10) are insertable into the cavities (41) and deform the locks (43) in a deforming direction (DD) that intersects the inserting and withdrawing directions (IWD) of the terminal fitting (10). The locks (43) then restore and locking surfaces (64) of the locks (43) lock the terminal fittings (10) in the cavities (41). Each locking surface (64) has an upper locking surface (58) furthest into the cavity (41) and a lower locking surface (61). The lower locking surface (61) is at an obtuse angle to the withdrawing direction of the terminal fitting (10), whereas an angle of the upper locking surface (58) to the withdrawing direction is smaller than the angle of the lower locking surface (61).

Lowered portions (12a) of a bottom wall (12) of the housing (10) face the locks (12) and prevent the locks (13) from being excessively deformed. The bottom surface of each lock (13) has a convex arcuate surface (13c) and each lowered portion (12a) of the bottom wall (12) has a recess (12b) substantially conforming to the convex arcuate surface (13c) to accommodate the convex arcuate surface (13c) when the lock (13) deforms.

Maneuverable recesses (24) maneuverable by a disengagement jig (60) from front are provided at positions on the front surface of each lock (13) retracted from the locked terminal fitting (30) and within a width range of a locking surface of the lock (13) engageable with the terminal fitting (30) and located more toward the base end of the locking portion than the locking surface.
