A thermal refiningless, hot-rolled steel exhibits impact strength in excess of 10kgf.multidot.m/cm.sup.2 and contains, expressed in terms of weight percent, 0.30-0.50% carbon, 0.15-0.60% silicon, 0.80-1.60% manganese, up to 0.02% phosphorus, up to 0.015% sulfur, 0.07-0.20% vanadium, 0.015-0.06% aluminum, 0.005-0.015% nitrogen, up to 0.0015% oxygen, the balance iron and unavoidable impurities. The steel of the above-identified property and composition is produced by casting a steel product of predetermined cross-sectional shape; heating the steel product up to a temperature of 1,100.degree.-1,250.degree. C.; hot-rolling the heated steel product at a final rolling temperature of 850.degree.1,000.degree. C.; normalizing the hot-rolled steel product at a temperature of 880.degree.-950.degree. C.; and cooling the normalized steel product down to 300.degree. C. at a cooling speed of 5.degree.-100.degree. C./min.

A canopy mounting device for a skid steer loader adapted for pivotally mounting a canopy on a vehicle body with a gas spring disposed between the canopy and the vehicle body in a preloaded condition, comprises: a bracket fixedly secured to the vehicle body, the bracket having a first through-hole; a hinge block attached to the canopy, the hinge block having an interlocking lug at an upper end thereof, a second through-hole formed adjacent to a lower end thereof and an abutment surface extending downward from the interlocking lug; a pivot pin inserted through the first and second through-holes to enable the canopy to be pivoted with respect to the vehicle body between a first closed position and a second open position; an interlocking ring for holding the canopy against pivotal movement into the first closed position, the interlocking ring engaged with the interlocking lug of the hinge block when the canopy is in the second open position; and a height-adjustable stopper for coming into contact with the abutment surface of the hinge block as the canopy is pivoted to the second open position.

An apparatus for accurately measuring laser beam intensity profiles so as to permit adjusting the oscillation mode of the laser to achieve good workability of the beam. The beam from a CO.sub.2 laser generator is attenuated and applied to an infrared sensor which produces an electrical analog signal representing the beam intensity. The sensed signal is amplified and applied via an A/D converter and an interface to a computer. The computer controls a scanner which scans successive scanning lines of the laser beam profile across the sensor. The computer also produces a visual image of the laser beam intensity profile from the sensor signal. An operator veiwing such image can make an accurate and convenient measurement of the laser beam intensity profile, thereby providing a basis for quantitative analysis in quality inspection of workpieces subjected to the laser beam.

An apparatus for detecting defects in a laser mirror by using a laser beam in order to detect any possible changes in reflectivity over the surface of the mirror. A laser beam is split by a beam splitter into one portion for scanning the mirror to be inspected and which is reflected therefrom to produce a reflection signal, the remaining portion of the beam providing a reference signal. A computer receives both signals and on the basis of comparison thereof determines the condition of the mirror because there will be incorrect reflection of the laser beam from any region of the mirror which is defective.

An automatic notching device in a sewing machine comprises a worm engaged with a worm gear fixed to a driving shaft of the sewing machine, a driving cam having a cam portion formed with a plurality of protrusions and a cylindrical boss portion, and an actuating link pivotally moved dependant on the movement of said cam. A cutter-holding member is provided to move upwardly and downwardly by the movement of actuating link transmitted via a linkage member and a swing arm. During the movement of the cutter-holding member, the cutter cooperates with a cutter-guiding member disposed adjacent to a side of needle-guiding member, in order to effect a simultaneous notching operation in sewing a curved portion of garment. The notching device further comprises a push rod having at one end a lever and at the other end a yoke. An actuating shaft is connected at one end to said yoke and has a roller at its other end. Depending upon the position of the lever the roller is moved upwardly or downwardly. When the roller engages said cam portion it is in a notching position, whereas when it engages said boss portion it is in a non-notching position.

A carbon--carbon composite for friction products comprises an outer friction part and a load bearing structure part supporting the friction part. The friction part contains a mixture of carbon fibers, pitch powder and graphite powder, whereas the structure part is comprised of a pack of alternating layers of the mixture and layers of one member selected from the group consisting of carbon fabrics, carbon-based prepregs and carbon-based, segmented prepregs. The carbon--carbon composite is formed by way of aternatingly piling up layers of a mixture of carbon fibers, pitch powder and graphite powder and layers of one member selected from the group consisting of carbon fabrics, carbon-based prepregs and carbon-based, segmented prepregs one above the other to provide a preform, heating and pressing the preform within a mold to obtain a green body, carbonizing the green body to prepare a carbonized body, impregnating the carbonized body with pitch powder and recarbonizing the impregnated body, and subjecting the impregnated and recarbonized body to chemical vapor infiltration with hydrocarbon gas.

The mast assembly includes a first hose sheave rotatably attached to the top of an intermediate mast and a second hose sheave rotatably secured to the intermediate mast at a location immediately below the first hose sheave and having a diameter smaller than that of the first hose sheave. First and second fluid hoses wound respectively around the first and second hose sheaves, each of the fluid hoses having a rear end anchored to the outer mast and a front end affixed to the carriage assembly which can slide along an inner mast. The carriage assembly is capable of holding first and second attachment actuators in fluid communication with the first and second fluid hoses.

A loader includes a seat bar swingable between a lowered, operator protective position and a raised, non-protective position. A pedal is movable between an operative position and a neutral position and has a plate member with a slot opened at it's top end. A pedal side crank is provided adjacent the pedal for rotation between a locking position and an unlocking position. Normally biased into the locking position, the pedal side crank has a lug member and is operatively coupled to the seat bar by virtue of a connecting rod and a seat bar side crank. Movement into the raised position of the seat bar causes the lug member of the pedal side crank to engage with the slot of the plate member of the pedal, thus locking the pedal in the neutral position.
