    摘要: A bimetal snap disc thermostat is disclosed which is structured for automated assembly. Such thermostat includes a body with contact supports molded therein in a manner providing sufficient strength so that terminals can be riveted onto the contact supports after assembly. The body and contact support subassembly is structured so that it is symmetrical on opposite sides of a central axis. A disc cup is provided with axial and radial surfaces which accurately locate the disc during and after assembly. Also disclosed is a method of gaging and calibrating the thermostat automatically. Calibration of the spring force of the movable contact is accomplished by sensing the force in a given position and subsequently deforming the spring until a predetermined force exists in such predetermined position. Gaging is accomplished by deforming a projection from the movable contact arm until a predetermined uniform spacing is established between such projection and a gaging surface.

    摘要: An adjustable bimetal snap disc thermostat is disclosed which provides conventional resistance-type heaters symmetrically positioned adjacent one side of the snap disc to allow adjustment of the operating temperature of the thermostat. The heaters are supported by heater terminals which extend up through the thermostat body and cover, and connect the cover to the thermostat body. The heaters and heater terminals are connected as a subassembly and subsequently installed as a unit in a device to minimize assembly costs. Further, since the heaters are conventional commercially available heaters, the cost of the heaters per se is minimized.

    摘要: A thermally responsive switching device suitable for use as a motor protector and the like is disclosed. Such device includes a housing assembly consisting of a thermoplastic base and a shallow drawn metallic cover. The base provides sidewalls extending to a peripheral flange against which a flange on the cover is positioned. The thermoplastic material is deformed inwardly around the cover flange to permanently connect the assembly. The switch includes an elongated bimetal snap element supported at one end on the end of a heater in heat exchange relation therewith. The other end of the heater is connected to an external terminal through an opening in the thermoplastic base. The terminal provides a tubular projection extending through the opening and a plurality of inwardly extending, resilient tabs which are welded to the heater. The resilient tabs resiliently bias the heater toward the terminal to ensure that looseness does not occur if the base material shrinks and to accommodate differential thermal expansion to prevent looseness or excessive stresses in the thermoplastic material. A mounting stud is welded to one end of the snap element and a movable contact is welded to the other end. Reinforcing elements cooperate with the stud and the movable contact to sandwich the material of the bimetal therebetween to minimize fatigue inducing stress concentrations.

    摘要: A bimetal snap disc thermostat is disclosed in which a steel disc cup is provided for strength and/or environmental resistant properties. Positioned within the disc cup is a disc seat formed of aluminum. A bimetal snap disc is positioned in the disc seat and operates the thermostat switch through an axially movable bumper. A ring of rubber like foam material is positioned between the body assembly and the disc on the side of the disc remote from the disc seat. The aluminum disc seat reduces temperature calibration drift of the disc during the cycling of the disc which occurs during the use of the thermostat. The foam ring also tends to reduce bouncing and thereby tends to reduce temperature calibration drift. Also the ring functions to insure that the disc remains properly seated in its aluminum disc seat.

    摘要: A temperature sensor including a body made from a thermally and electrically conductive material, the body defined by a peripheral wall extending along a longitudinal axis from an open proximal end to a closed distal end. The proximal end defining an opening to an internal cavity of the body. A thermally responsive element including an outer surface, a temperature sensitive resistor electrically connected to a first lead, a second lead, and a connector block disposed substantially within the internal cavity. The inner surface of the peripheral wall defines the shape of a right circular cone at the distal end. The outer surface of the temperature sensitive resistor is in direct contact with the inner surface of the peripheral wall at the distal end. One of a thermally conductive and curable potting material and a thermally conductive grease disposed in the cavity and substantially surrounding the temperature responsive element.
