The present invention is a solid-bowl screw centrifuge that includes a centrifugal drum. The drum has a drum casing and a screw with a screw body that is surrounded by a screw blade. The screw blade forms at least one screw spiral with a conveying path for transporting material to be centrifuged. The centrifuge also includes an inlet into the centrifugal drum, at least one solid matter discharge and at least one liquid outlet. The centrifuge includes a drum chamber that is axially closed by a drum cover having essentially a conical shape. Further included is a disk stack having at least one conical disk, and the disk stack is mounted to the drum cover directly upstream of the liquid outlet. At least a portion of the disk stack is arranged in a cylindrical section of the drum chamber that has an essentially constant diameter. A screw disk is arranged on the screw body between the drum cover and a first screw spiral.

A method of retrofitting a centrifuge is provided. The method includes disassembling a known centrifuge and replacing a bowl section of the centrifuge outer body with a longer bowl section. The method further comprises replacing the conical beach section with a shorter beach section, i.e. a beach section having a greater slope. The screw conveyor is replaced with another screw conveyor having outlet nozzles adapted to impart rotational movement to the inlet feed. The retrofitted centrifuge provides enhanced performance through an additional length of cylindrical section, thereby making the clarification length longer, and improving the effectiveness of the centrifuge in removing solids from the inlet feed. The retrofitted centrifuge preferably remains mounted to the same pedestal as the centrifuge prior to retrofit.

The rotor (1) as well as the screw conveyor (2) are adapted to be driven through shafts (5, 8) situated at the upper end of the rotor. By the invention it becomes possible by simple means to adapt the decanter centrifuge for different separation duties, since the location of the sludge outlet (13) can be chosen freely without other parts of the decanter centrifuge preventing this.

A second stage consisting in a first radial adjustment of the separation zone of the liquid phases, wherein said first adjustment is carried out with annular means of radial adjustment, which are static with respect to said perimetral rotary means, acting as an overflow lip to allow the pass of the predominantly light liquid phase. A third stage consisting in a second radial adjustment of the level of the separation zone acting at the outlet of the liquid/liquid overflow of the second preceding stage.
