    摘要: A gear cutter is provided. At least one cutting insert is mounted on a body member. The cutting insert has a first end and a second end, the first end including side faces that are configured to converge inwardly toward each other as they extend to a tip portion, the side faces and the tip portion intersecting with a forward face so as to define a first cutting edge. The second end including side faces that are configured to converge inwardly toward each other as they extend to a tip portion. The side faces and tip portion intersect with the forward face so as to define a second cutting edge. Each of the cutting edges has a full involute configuration that matches a desired configuration of a gap between adjacent teeth of a gear.

The gear in its final orientation has an involute tooth profile including a plurality of cut teeth and a plurality of valleys therebetween. The cutting edges are configured to cut the gear in the blank orientation, such that the gear in the final orientation includes the involute tooth profile with an active profile section and an operating pitch diameter that is spaced apart from the active profile section.

    摘要: Milling tool has a tool body with a fixing end, an opposite outer end, and a peripheral surface. The tool body comprises a large number of separated seats arranged at the peripheral surface one after the other along a helix line having a constant pitch. Corresponding large number of replaceable milling inserts comprise an under side, an opposite upper side forming a chip surface, a circumferential edge side, and two pairs of main cutting edges. The chip surface extends in an extension plane that comprises the main cutting edges. Each seat receives one of the milling inserts and comprises a support surface allowing support to the milling insert projecting from the tool body for cutting engagement with a gash of the workpiece. The chip surface extension plane of each milling insert has a normal parallel to the tangent of the helix line where the same intersects the extension plane.

The tool is a face cutter which performs a continuous indexing motion with equal hand of rotation of cutter and workpiece (e.g. face gear) thereby describing a hypocycloid path of motion and an indexing ratio of two cutter rotations during one workpiece gear rotation which will produce straight lines along the face width of the face gear.
