摘要： A hub, on which compressing of the inner central bore is to be minimized during the winding up of an information medium in tape form under high winding pressure. According to one embodiment, this is achieved by an outer hub ring having a strong profile being provided alongside the outer windung area and by there also being elastically deformable intermediate elements between outer hub ring and inner hub ring. Such elements provide for a compression ratio of the compressed diameters of a the inner to the outer ring of less than 1:4. In the case of a further embodiment, variously shaped openings or notches, which are distributed evenly over the entire circumference, are provided on both sides of the hub between its outer circumference and inner circumference. In a still further embodiment the elastically deformable intermediate elements consist of webs running in radial and circumferential directions and residual portions between openings provided between the periphery of the outer ring and said webs.

With a winding tension of not more than 2N/cm width of the wound magnetic recording medium, the skew measured over the total length of the wound recording medium should be not more than 5 .mu.s. The length of the wound recording medium is at least 5,000 m; the hub may consist, for example, of aluminum, steel or hard pertinax. It was found that the conditions are fulfilled by a hub in which the compression is less than 0.3% of the hub diameter.

摘要： The present invention is an apparatus for controlled, uniform stacking of tape thereon during read/write operations in tape drives to reduce lateral tape motion during read/write operations. The invention comprises a hub and two flanges that are located on opposite sides of the hub. The flanges have surfaces facing each other extending outwardly from the hub in diverging relationship with each other. The separation between the facing surfaces of the flanges increases from a minimum at a location adjacent to the hub to a maximum at the outer circumferential edge of the flanges in a radial direction extending outwardly from the axis of rotation. Further, the separation between the facing surfaces also increases from a minimum to a maximum along any path of equal distance around the axis of rotation, the location of minimum separation is generally opposite to the location of maximum separation. The minimum separation is such with respect to the width of the tape being spooled thereon as to be effective to ensuring uniform stacking of the tape around the hub as the tape is spooled.

摘要： An insert that is to be mounted on a hub of a spool positioned in a magnetic tape cartridge for permitting the spool to be attracted to the magnetic element of a computer drive mechanism includes a circular ferromagnetic disk having oppositely positioned first and second planar surfaces. The disk is provided with a centrally positioned through hole, and a plurality of securing through holes for permitting the ferromagnetic disk to be secured to the spool hub of a magnetic tape cartridge. The disk includes an annular flange that extends around the outer periphery of the disk and axially away from the first planar surface. The ferromagnetic disk has a thickness as measured between the first and second planar surfaces that is less than 1.35 mm. The disk can also include an annular flange that surrounds the centrally positioned hole and that extends axially away from the first planar surface. Also, the disk can be provided with an annular flange that surrounds each of the securing through holes and that extends axially away from the first planar surface. Each of the annular flanges that surrounds the securing holes can have a radially inwardly directed shoulder that allows the ferromagnetic disk to be securely attached to the hub of the spool of the magnetic tape cartridge.
