    Abstract: A personal mobility vehicle or scooter includes a least one swivel caster wheel supported at the rear of the scooter. The scooter has a body that includes a deck and a handlebar assembly. The scooter includes at least one front wheel with the deck extending between the at least one front wheel and the at least one swivel wheel. The scooter can also include an angled rear portion supporting a rear swivel caster wheel such that the pivot axis of the swivel wheel is inclined with respect to the top surface of the deck. Embodiments of the scooter also include a swivel braking assembly configured to apply a braking force to the at least one swivel wheel.

    Abstract: Braking and centering mechanisms for foot-deck-based vehicles are described. At least one of the at least one rear wheel of the foot-deck-based vehicle is a braking wheel that is pivotally connected to the foot-deck for swivel movement about a rear swivel axis through a range of angular positions. The braking mechanism comprises a brake member coupled to the rear end of the foot-deck. The brake member is configured to move between a braking position in which the brake member is depressed towards the braking wheel and drives a brake surface to a frictionally engaging position at which the brake surface frictionally engages the braking wheel to reduce a speed of the foot-deck-based vehicle regardless of the angular position of the braking wheel within the range, and a non-braking position in which the brake member permits movement of the brake surface away from the braking wheel.

    Abstract: A new skater with a brake is provided with a device for generating a warning signal such as an alarm sound. A skater with a brake includes: a brake plate that extends above a wheel while being supported so as to swing in a vertical direction, the brake plate being brought into sliding contact with the outer surface of the wheel so as to brake the wheel; a driven roller that rotates in contact with the wheel in synchronization with a swing of the brake plate; and a bell that generates a warning signal in response to the rotation of the driven roller. The swing of the brake plate brings the driven roller into contact with the wheel so as to generate the warning signal from the bell, and the brake plate comes into sliding contact with the outer surface of the wheel so as to brake the wheel.
