摘要: A paper roll-handling clamp for lift trucks of the pivoted arm type capable of clamping a paper roll and shifting the position of the roll relative to the lift truck between a position of equal extension, wherein the forward ends of the clamp arms extend a substantially equal distance forwardly of the lift truck, and a position of unequal extension wherein the forward end of one clamp arm extends a greater distance forwardly than the forward end of the other clamp arm. The shifting movement of the clamp arms in unison occurs about a first transverse pivot axis, while the pivoting of the clamp arms with respect to one another to perform the clamping function occurs about a second transverse pivot axis located a spaced distance away from the first pivot axis and movable with respect thereto. The employment of the two separate pivot axes for the shifting function and the clamping function respectively enables the center of the paper roll to be placed very close to the longitudinal centerline of the lift truck and axis of rotation of the clamp when the clamp is in the position of equal extension, despite the fact that the first pivot axis about which the shifting movement occurs is offset transversely by a substantial distance from the truck centerline and axis of rotation, and enables the center of the roll to be offset advantageously from the centerline and axis of rotation in the unequal extension position.

摘要: A cellular space divider for cartons and the like is disclosed that is formed from a blank of sheet material such as corrugated cardboard. The blank contains vertical first scorelines that define front, rear, and a pair of side panels. One of the panels contains a horizontal first fold line, and the remaining panels each contain throughout substantially the length thereof a first cut colinear with the first fold line, whereby the panels are divided into lower first and upper second panel sections. When the panels are folded about the first score lines to define a tube and the adjacent ends of the panels are connected together, the lower and upper panel sections define lower and upper cell units, respectively, the upper cell unit being foldable about the first fold line to a position in which the external surfaces of the panel sections joined by the first fold line are in contiguous engagement, thereby to define a multi-cell arrangement. Another panel may be provided with a horizontal second fold line at a higher elevation than the first fold line, the remaining panels being provided with second cuts colinear with the second fold line, thereby to define a third cell unit that is foldable about the second fold line to a position in which the external surfaces of the panel sections on opposite sides of the second fold line are in contiguous engagement. In one embodiment, the rear panel is unitary, and in a second embodiment, the rear panel includes a pair of rear panel sections that are connected at their free ends, a divider panel being provided that is connected with one rear panel section and is foldable to a position extending transversely across the tube.

摘要: A multistage, extensible-contractible hydraulic ram assembly for use in conjunction with a triple-lift-type mast in a lift truck. The assembly is designed for mounting in such a truck in a so-called inverted position. It is constructed with special, externally actuated, internal valving which, through controlling the action of pressure fluid within the assembly, assures positive control over the sequence of movements of the sections in a mast as such are raised and lowered, without requiring latching and interlocking of these sections. Further, the assembly features the capability of producing substantially uniform or constant lifting and lowering speeds for a load which is carried on the usual carriage mounted on a mast of the type indicated.

摘要: A fluid control valve which operates accurately in response to the pressure difference that exists between a pair of ports in the valve. The valve features a spool which is normally biased to one control position wherein it remains with the sensed pressure difference being below one preselected amount. The spool shifts rapidly to another control position on the sensed pressure difference exceeding this amount. In this other control position, the spool remains until the sensed pressure difference drops to another preselected amount which is significantly lower than the first-mentioned preselected amount. On this latter event occurring, the spool returns to its first-mentioned control position.

摘要: Bidirectional tear strip means for containers are disclosed, characterized in that the tear strip means are defined by at least three parallel spaced rows of slits or cuts successive pairs of which are arranged in a herringbone pattern for defining therebetween a tear strip, the successive tear strips defined by the rows of slits being operable in opposite tear directions, respectively. Preferably the slits of each row are linear, of equal length, and are equally spaced from each other. The slits of successive rows have the same acute angle -- but are of the opposite sense -- relative to the longitudinal axis of the tear strip defined therebetween. Preferably the slits of one row are longitudinally offset from the slits of the next row. In the preferred embodiment, the tear strips are so defined in the container blank that upon tearing of the tear strip means of the resulting container in either of two directions, the container may be divided in half for ready access to the container contents. In alternate embodiments, the tear strip means are arranged to provide access or dispensing openings in the containers.

摘要: A single-acting, three-stage, four-section telescopic ram for use in conjunction with a triple-lift type mast in a lift truck. The ram features an extremely low overall length when fully contracted, thus affording good operator visibility. The ram also is capable of producing surprisingly "high-lift" despite its low contracted profile. Further, the ram features an internal construction that produces constant lifting and lowering speeds for a load, as well as providing for positive control over the sequence of movements of parts in and on an associated mast.

摘要: A truss stacking apparatus is disclosed which includes means for lifting successive horizontally disposed trusses off of a conveyor and for stacking the trusses in a generally upright orientation on a stacking skid. Guide means are disposed in the conveyor path for contacting the angularly arranged top chords of successive trusses to effect lateral shifting of the trusses toward lifting positions in which the trusses are lifted from the conveyor onto the skid. SUBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION1. Field of the InventionThis invention relates generally to handling equipment for wooden structural truss members, and more particularly to apparatus for raising horizontally disposed truss members off of a conveyor and for stacking the trusses in a generally upright position on a stacking skid.2. Description of the Prior ArtPrefabricated wood building components, such as roof and floor trusses, are used extensively in the building industry today, particularly for residential construction. Normally, a roof truss includes an elongate base chord to which a plurality of angularly arranged top chords are attached. In one typical truss formation, the base chord is connected at each end with an angularly arranged top chord.Such trusses are fabricated in varying shapes and sizes and similar trusses are then stored together prior to shipping. Typically, such trusses are fabricated at one station, and then successive ones of such trusses are horizontally disposed on a conveyor which transports them to a stacking station. At the stacking station, these trusses are successively lifted, either manually or automatically, to a generally upright position. As evidenced by the patents to Adams U.S. Pat. No. 3,517,834 and Jureit et al. U.S. Pat. No. 3,811,578, various automatic stop and lift initiating devices have been proposed to properly position the truss on the conveyor for subsequent lifting with respect to the stacking station. In Jureit et al., a bumper plate-lift switch combination is disposed in the truss path on the conveyor downstream of the stacking station. A truss disposed on the conveyor is conveyed downstream with its base chord extending in the direction of movement of the conveyor. The downstream end of the truss abuts the bumper plate and activates the lift switch to effect lifting. If the truss has a tail, the tail end of the downstream and top chord will abut the bumper plate. If the truss has no tail, the truss portion where the downstream end top chord and base chord join will abut the bumper plate. If it is desired to stack smilarly sized ones of both types of trusses on the same skid, either the bumper plate or the stacking skid for receiving stacked trusses must be separately positioned for each type of truss stacked, or else the stacked trusses will be misaligned.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention was developed to provide an improved stacking apparatus which includes means for positioning similarly sized trusses, both with and without tails, in a lifting position for stacking on a skid member. The stacking apparatus is so designed that the positioning means need not require separate adjustment when stacking similarly sized trusses with tails and without tails.Accordingly, a primary object of the present inventions is to provide a stacking apparatus for stacking trusses of the type having a base chord and at least one top chord angularly arranged at an acute angle relative to the base chord, including a stacking station having a skid upon which said trusses are successively stacked in a generally vertical orientation upon their base chords, conveyor means for horizontally transporting successive trusses toward the stacking station, said trusses oriented on the conveyor with their base chords generally adjacent one side of the conveyor. Pivotable stacking arms are provided at the stacking station for raising successive trusses from the conveyor to a position above the stacking skid. The stacking arms are mounted for pivotal movement about an axis disposed on one side of the conveyor and generally parallel with the axis of the conveyor, said stacking arms being pivotable between a lowered position beneath the conveyor and an elevated position adjacent the stacking skid. Positioning means are provided for positioning successive trusses on the conveyor relative to the stacking arms prior to engagement thereby. The positioning means include a first stationary guide arranged in the path of travel of a truss approaching the stacking station to engage the top chord thereof and to laterally displace the truss relative to the conveyor in the direction of the pivot axis of the stacking arms. The positioning means further includes a second stationary guide arranged adjacent the stacking arms for engaging the base chord of the laterally displaced truss, which second guide cooperates with the first guide to orient the truss in a stacking position in which the truss base chord is parallel with and adjacent the stacking arm pivot axis. Consequently, when the truss is in its stacking position, the stacking arms may be operable to raise the horizontal truss from the conveyor to a generally vertical position relative to the stacking skid.

摘要: A load-bearing assembly including a clamping-force sensor in a pivoting support assembly that is adjustable to vary a radial spacing between a pivot pin and a clamp pad mounted on the support assembly. A plurality of clamping-force sensors may be included in a plurality of pivoting clamp pad support assemblies to support a clamp pad and may be arranged to sense the magnitude of a clamping force exerted by a particular adjustable pivoting clamp pad support assembly and send signals indicative of the magnitude of the force to a controller. A load sensor may be located between a pivot pin and a bearing block, or strain gauges may be mounted in the pivoting bearing block so as to measure forces carried through the bearing block. Force values sensed and transmitted to the controller may be used to evaluate and adjust the clamp arm assembly to grasp a load with a desired clamping force or distribution of clamping forces.
