A method of electrically insulating one or more components of a boom assembly involves applying a seamless coating of dielectric material to an outer surface of each of one or more boom assembly components, the boom assembly components being constructed of metal or other electrically conductive material. The dielectric material is applied as a liquid and, when hardened, creates a seamless, electrically insulating barrier on the boom assembly components to which it is applied. A layer of ultraviolet radiation protective material may be applied on top of the layer of dielectric material to protect the dielectric material from ultraviolet degradation. The boom assembly components may be painted or otherwise treated prior to the application of the dielectric material.

A beam for use in construction equipment is made from tailor welded panels. At least one of the panels is made from at least two pieces of material such as steel welded together with the weld running the length of the beam. The weld between pieces of steel can either be parallel to the longitudinal axis of the beam, or the pieces can be tapered and the weld will be at an angle diverging from the longitudinal axis of the beam. The two pieces of material have a different compressive strength per unit of length in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the beam. In some embodiments a top panel is welded to two side panels to form two top corners of the beam and a bottom panel is welded to the two side panels to form two bottom corners of the beam.

A traveling crane including a telescoping boom whose individual telescopically extending boom members are able to be extended and retracted after the disengagement of locking bolt connections using one single stage hydraulic piston and cylinder unit. The boom members are bolted in the respective extended or retracted positions by locking bolts spring-loaded toward the locked setting thereof. The piston rod of the piston and cylinder unit is pivotally attached to the boom joint member terminating the inner end of the outer boom member. An entraining device, which is able to be coupled with a receiving member on the telescopically extending boom members, is arranged in a part of the end of the cylinder, from which the piston rod comes out of the cylinder. Each of the telescoping boom members is provided at its inner end with at least one locking bolt, which is urged by a spring in a radial extension direction to lock in a hole provided at the inner end or adjacent to the outer end of the boom member encompassing such boom member. At an outer end thereof the locking bolt possesses a coupling member, which in the locking position of the locking bolt is coupled with the piston or piston rod of a hydraulic piston and cylinder unit arranged radially on the piston rod end of the cylinder. A drive is provided, which moves the cylinder accurately into the coupling position.

This invention relates to a multiple jack incorporating at least three elements, viz. two pistons and two cylinders which define large and small chambers of a first cylinder, and large and small chambers of a second cylinder.According to the invention: a) a first inner conduit connects the large chamber of the first cylinder to a first outer conduit; b) a second inner conduit connects the small chamber of the first cylinder to a second outer conduit; c) a third inner conduit connects the large chamber of the second cylinder to a third outer conduit; and d) a fourth inner conduit connects the small chamber of the second cylinder to a fourth outer conduit.One application is the production of a telescopic jib presenting a satisfactory flexibility of use.
