Abstract: A method of autonomous flight path planning for a group of cooperating aircraft operating in formation includes: receiving information related to obstructions that interfere with an aircraft of the group continuing on a flight path; calculating a velocity obstacle for each obstruction; calculating a plurality of candidate velocities outside of the velocity obstacles; selecting a first velocity from the candidate velocities and operating a leader of the group at the first velocity; calculating, based upon keeping a follower aircraft in formation, a second velocity for the follower; determining whether the second velocity is inside one of the velocity obstacles; operating the follower at the second velocity when the second velocity is outside the velocity obstacles; and calculating a revised velocity that is outside of the velocity obstacles and operating the follower at the revised velocity when the second velocity is inside one of the velocity obstacles.

Abstract: In an aspect, there is a method of determining allowable defects for a composite component comprising identifying at least one wrinkle characteristic of a composite component wrinkle defect; making a first plurality of specimens each having a predetermined wrinkle defect representative of the composite component wrinkle defect; measuring each of the predetermined wrinkle defects in the first plurality of specimens for at least one performance metric to generate performance data; and generating an allowable wrinkle defect profile based on the performance data from the first plurality of specimens. In other aspects, there are methods of making a specimen with a predetermined wrinkle defect.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a local control system for a rotor assembly of an apparatus includes a first actuator disposed in the rotor assembly and configured to control motion of a first controllable element in the rotor assembly. The rotor assembly is mounted to the apparatus and is rotated responsive to torque and rotational energy provided thereto. The local control system also includes a first sensor disposed in the rotor assembly and configured to provide position feedback in relation to the first controllable element. The local control system also includes a first local control computer disposed in the rotor assembly and communicably coupled to a first central control computer disposed in the apparatus external to the rotor assembly, where the first local control computer is configured to transmit a control signal to the first actuator and receive a feedback signal from the first sensor.
