Abstract: A locking device for a container having a hinged lid, comprises a base unit adapted to be fixed to the container and a pivotable unit mounted to the base unit and pivotally movable between open and closed positions. The base unit includes a locking mechanism comprising a casing, a rotatable shaft, a blocking member fixed to the shaft and disposed in the casing, and a rolling member. The pivotable unit is mounted to the shaft of the base unit. The rolling member is provided to move within the casing between a blocking position wherein the rolling member blocks movement of the pivotable unit relative to the casing to prevent unauthorized opening of the lid, and a release position wherein the rolling member moves away from the blocking member to permit the movement of the blocking member relative to the casing thereby permitting opening of the lid.

Abstract: A container comprises a hollow body portion, a hinged lid member pivotally attached to the body portion, an automatic latch assembly fixed to the body portion or the lid member, and a locking strap provided with an engagement member. The latch assembly comprises a casing and a lock bolt reciprocating between locked and unlocked positions. The lock bolt engages the engagement member of the locking strap in the locked position and is disengaged from the engagement member in the unlocked position. The latch assembly further comprises an actuator for moving the lock bolt out of engagement with the engagement member, a signal receiver for receiving a wireless signal or an accelerometer for monitoring acceleration of the container, and an electronic control module electrically connected to the signal receiver or the accelerometer for controlling the operation of the actuator in response to the wireless signal or data from the accelerometer.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a rocking device for waste containers, particularly residential or commercial waste containers. In particular, the invention provides a waste container locking device which keeps the container closed when a sudden jerk or jarring, such as by ground impact, is applied on the container, so that the container does not open when it is accidentally knocked over, but may be opened when tipped during dumping.
