    Abstract: This disclosure provide various techniques for decreasing the time it takes user equipment to tune away from a compromised network connection. By more quickly detecting a signal characteristic issue (e.g., signal quality issue) in the compromised signal and performing mitigation actions, the user equipment may decrease power consumption and increase data throughput. The signal quality issue may be detected by monitoring the location of the user equipment, a channel impulse response of the user equipment, and/or a block error rate (BLER) of a signal, among other methods. The data obtained may be fed into confidence validation logic, which may determine a level of confidence that the signal quality issue may cause a weak or broken connection between the user equipment and a network. The confidence validation logic may, based on the determination, operate the user equipment in an active state, a suspend state, or a release state.

    Abstract: An electronic device may include communications circuitry, sensing circuitry, and a set of antennas having first and second feeds for covering different polarizations. The communications circuitry may transmit signals with a first polarization using each of the antennas and may concurrently transmit signals with a second polarization using all but a selected one of the antennas. The sensing circuitry may concurrently transmit sensing signals with the first polarization using one of the antennas and may receive sensing signals with the second polarization using the selected antenna. The sensing signals may include chirp signals generated to include muted periods that correspond to a range of frequencies that overlap frequencies at which the wireless circuitry is subject to radio-frequency interference. This may allow for concurrent wireless communications and sensing operations without interference between the communications circuitry and the sensing circuitry.

    Abstract: A broadcast service network (separate from a cellular network) includes broadcast service signal (BSS) nodes that broadcast signals to receivers of user equipment (UE). The BSS may provide broadcast service information to user equipment, such as the emergency notifications, even when the user equipment is out of range of the cellular network. Further, the broadcast service signals may provide information that improves the user equipment's search and access time for connecting to the cellular network (e.g., a cellular service station) and/or that assists the user equipment in locating a nearby region of cellular network coverage. In addition, the BSS may be wake-up signals configured to activate the receiver when the receiver is in a sleep or inactive mode. In some embodiments, the BSS may be pointer signals configured to direct the user equipment to a broadcast service channel to receive the broadcast service information.
