A power-on reset operation is succeeded by initialization operations of a central processing unit (CPU) and a peripheral circuit in an electric control unit (ECU). The initialization operation controlled by the peripheral circuit proceeds in parallel with the initialization operation of the CPU. A communication session between the ECUs is established in the initialization operations by a communication controller. Parallel execution of the initialization operations contributes to a decrease of initialization time of the ECU and results in a prompt start-up of an automotive system using the ECU.

When a data read request is made at a long unit (two words) in a data processing system including a plurality of data processing unit, a control unit, a plurality (for example, two) of memory devices, data is simultaneously read from both memory devices. While certain data is supplied to the requesting data processing unit, other data is stored in a register. At the next timing, the other data is supplied to the data processing unit from the register. In storing, one word data is stored in a register. At the next timing, this word data and the following word data is stored in memory devices, respectively, at the same time. Pre-loading data and priority changing operations reduce the occurrence of access collision.

In the second lever member are formed first and second long holes, in which the support pin and the second support pin are fitted. When the switch lever is turned to right or left turn position, the second lever member is moved forward into the path of rotation of a cancel projection by the force of the torsion spring, turning the second lever member. The first lever member is turned in interlock with the second lever member, thereby automatically returning the switch lever to neutral position.

Integral with the operating knob is a first gear which is disposed in the circumferential direction of the operating knob. A second gear is brought into mesh with the first gear in such a manner that the respective axes are orthogonal to each other. A support shaft of the second gear is held by a holder which is fixed to the interior of the housing. Also held by the holder is a printed circuit board which is disposed in the axial direction of the operating knob. Rotation of the operating knob is transmitted to a rotary volume through both gears and. The rotary volume is mounted on the printed circuit board, and first and second push switches, which are operated by key tops, respectively, are also mounted on the printed circuit board. The ends of the "movable" bar are located between the side walls of a stationary (i.e., non-moving or fixed) yoke of magnetic material with a driving coil located between the ends of the movable bar and the side walls of the stationary yoke. The stationary yoke is of magnetic material for concentrating a magnetic field encompassing the movable bar, the coil and the stationary yoke. The combination of the movable bar and the yoke are configured to produce a magnetic field such that with no current in the driving coil, the movable bar has a defined equilibrium (or rest) position and when the movable bar is displaced from its equilibrium position a magnetic restoring torque is present such that the movable bar oscillates about its equilibrium, position. In a preferred embodiment the bar is a permanent magnet and the yoke is made of magnetic material. A varying current signal is selectively supplied to the driving coil to control the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations of the movable bar.

A post-mix beverage dispensing system including a cabinet having top, front, back, side and bottom panels for housing various components is disclosed. The components of the system include a carbonator for producing carbonated water by mixing cooled potable water with CO.sub.2. Potable water is stored in a portable tank means and is supplied to the carbonator through a first pipe. The portable tank is easily detachable from the cabinet. The system further includes a cooling reservoir containing cooled water. A serpentine section of the first pipe, along with the carbonator is disposed in the cooling reservoir. A CO.sub.2 tank supplies CO.sub.2 to the carbonator. Syrup packages dispense a selected syrup. Carbonated water from the carbonator, cool water from the portable tank, and syrup from the syrup packages are mixed in a valve and dispensed through a nozzle. The cooled water may be continuously supplied to the carbonator through the first pipe. Second and third pipes link the carbonator with the valve, and the CO.sub.2 to the syrup packages for dispensing CO.sub.2 therefrom, respectively.
