Abstract: A video coding mechanism for viewpoint dependent video coding is disclosed. The mechanism includes mapping a spherical video signal, stitched from multiple directional video signals, into a plurality of sub-picture video signals each containing a sequence of sub-pictures. The plurality of sub-picture video signals are encoded as a plurality of sub-picture bitstreams. The plurality of sub-picture bitstreams are composed into a plurality of sub-picture tracks to be compatible with a multi-bitstream merge function for reconstruction of the spherical video signal. A track level mergable indication is encoded within a track level box for the sub-picture tracks, which indicates the sub-picture tracks are compatible with the multi-bitstream merge function for reconstruction of the spherical video signal.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism for viewpoint dependent video coding is disclosed. The mechanism includes mapping a spherical video sequence into a plurality of sub-picture video sequences. The mechanism further includes encoding the plurality of sub-picture video sequences as sub-picture bitstreams to support merging of the plurality of sub-picture bitstreams, the encoding ensuring that each sub-picture bitstream is self-referenced and two or more of the sub-picture bitstreams can be merged to generate a single video bitstream using a lightweight bitstream rewriting process that does not involve changing of any block-level coding results. A mergable indication is encoded to indicate that the sub-picture bitstream containing the indication is compatible with a multi-bitstream merge function for reconstruction of the spherical video sequence. A set of the sub-picture bitstreams and the mergable indication are transmitted toward the decoder to support decoding and displaying a virtual reality video viewport.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising a picture parameter set (PPS) in a PPS network abstraction layer (NAL) unit and a coded picture comprising a set of video coding layer (VCL) NAL units. A particular VCL NAL unit does not refer to the PPS NAL unit unless a value of a NAL unit header layer identifier (nuh_layer_id) of the PPS NAL unit is less than or equal to a value of a nuh_layer_id of the particular VCL NAL unit. The coded picture is decoded from the set of VCL NAL units based on the PPS in the PPS NAL unit to produce a decoded picture. The decoded picture is forwarded for display as part of a decoded video sequence.

Abstract: A method of decoding a coded video bitstream includes obtaining a reference picture list structure for a current slice represented in the coded video bitstream, wherein the reference picture list structure contains a number of entries; obtaining a default number of active entries in a reference picture list for the current slice; constructing a reference picture list for the current slice, the reference picture list containing a number of active and inactive entries; setting the number of active entries in the reference picture list equal to the number of entries in the reference picture list structure when the default number of active entries in the reference picture list is greater than the number of entries in the reference picture list structure; and obtaining, based on at least one active entry of the reference picture list, at least one reconstructed block of the current slice.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising a plurality of sub-pictures associated with a picture and a flag. The sub-pictures are contained in a plurality of video coding layer (VCL) network abstraction layer (NAL) units. A NAL unit type value is the same for all VCL NAL units associated with the picture when the flag is set to a first value. When the flag is set to a second value, a first NAL unit type value for VCL NAL units containing one or more of the sub-pictures of the picture is different than a second NAL unit type value for VCL NAL units containing one or more of the sub-pictures of the picture. The sub-pictures are decoded based on the NAL unit type values. The sub-pictures are forwarded for display as part of a decoded video sequence.
