Abstract:
A method of printing with an ink-jet printer. The method includes printing a dye onto a substrate, printing a deactivating agent on the dye, causing the agent to react with either the dye or the substrate, and washing the substrate. The invention is also an ink-jet cartridge having a plurality of reservoirs, some of which contain an ink having a dye and at least one of which contains a deactivating agent.
Abstract:
A printer having a media width printhead a sled slidably arranged with respect to the printhead a media platen module supported by the sled a capper module supported by the sled a wiper module supported by the sled and a selection mechanism for selectively sliding the sled to align one of the platen, capper and wiper modules with the printhead, and for moving the aligned module to a position in proximity of the printhead.
Abstract:
A maintenance system for a printhead, the system having a sled slidably arranged with respect to the printhead a media platen module supported by the sled a capper module supported by the sled a wiper module supported by the sled; and a selection mechanism for selectively sliding the sled to align one of the platen, capper and wiper modules with the printhead, and for moving the aligned module to a position in proximity of the printhead.
Abstract:
Method of shaping media for printing by a media width printhead, the method having transporting media into a print zone defined by a plurality of fluid ejection nozzles of the printhead with input rollers at an angle to a plane parallel with the print zone; transporting media out of the print zone with output rollers at an angle to said parallel plane; and supporting and shaping the media as the media is transported through the print zone with an elongate platen, the platen having a series of upstream ribs disposed upstream of the print zone with respect to the media transport direction and a series of downstream ribs disposed downstream of the print zone with respect to the media transport direction, wherein the ribs are configured so that the transported media is in contact with the ribs in the print zone and adopts a constrained curved path past the nozzles.
Abstract:
A maintenance apparatus for a printhead, the apparatus having a rotatable shaft; a porous material about the shaft; and a mechanism for rotating the shaft so that the porous material rotates against the printhead, the porous material being configured to absorb fluid from the printhead during the rotation.
Abstract:
A method of maintaining a printhead having the steps of bringing a porous material within a predetermined distance from fluid ejection nozzles of the printhead at a non-printing phase of the printhead; and holding the porous material at the predetermined distance during the non-printing phase, wherein the predetermined distance is selected to allow a fluid flow path to form between the nozzles and porous material which causes transfer of fluid egested by the nozzles to the porous material and then induces the flow path to break off.
Abstract:
An ink set providing reduced differential lightfade and graininess. The ink set comprises at least one dark inkjet ink and at least one light inkjet ink. The dark inkjet ink comprises at least one pigment having a high chromaticity and a low lightfastness and the light inkjet ink comprises at least one less chromatic pigment having a high lightfastness. The pigment in the dark inkjet ink is dissimilar from the pigment in the light inkjet ink in at least one of a crystal form, particle size, chromophore, and chemical dispersant. A method of reducing differential lightfade and graininess in a printed image is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method of analyzing blood includes delivering a blood sample to a test device, applying a spatially varying electric field to the blood sample to provide a depleted cell concentration in a portion of the blood sample, and sensing a property of the portion of the blood sample.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for fractionating components of a sample are disclosed herein. A method of fractionating components of a sample includes establishing a solution density gradient in a capillary channel, applying the sample to the capillary channel, and centrifuging the sample in the capillary channel, thereby separating the components of the sample by density.
Abstract:
An inkjet ink having an increased shelf life. The inkjet ink comprises an ink vehicle and a reactive colorant. The reactive colorant is nonreactive with water, thereby increasing the shelf life of the inkjet ink to greater than approximately twelve months. An inkjet printing system comprising the inkjet ink and an activating agent is also disclosed. A reactive colorant of the inkjet ink is nonreactive with water but is sufficiently reactive with the activating agent to form an activated complex to fix the reactive colorant to a textile substrate. A method of printing on a textile substrate is also disclosed.
