    Abstract: A method and apparatus of video coding using adaptive Inter prediction are disclosed. A selected Inter prediction process is determined, wherein the selected Inter prediction process selects an Inter prediction filter from multiple Inter prediction filters for the current block depending on first pixel data comprising neighbouring reconstructed pixels (NRP) of the current block. The selected Inter prediction process may be further determined depending on extra motion compensated pixels (EMCP) around a motion-compensated reference block corresponding to the current block. Distortion between the NRP and EMCP can be used to determine the selected Inter prediction filter. The distortion can be calculated using a sum of absolute differences or squared differences between the NRP and the EMCP.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for partitioning a coding unit into one or more prediction units are disclosed. A prediction binary tree structure corresponding to a binary tree partitioning process for the current block is determined. The current block is partitioned into one or more prediction units according to the prediction binary tree structure. In the encoder side, a prediction process is applied to each prediction unit to generate prediction information for each prediction unit. The prediction information for each prediction unit associated with each prediction unit are encoded into a bitstream for the current block. In the decoder side, each prediction unit is reconstructed based on previous reconstructed data and prediction information of each prediction unit. The prediction information of each prediction unit are derived from the video bitstream. The current block is reconstructed based on the prediction units that are reconstructed according to the prediction binary tree structure derived.

    Abstract: A method that reorders partitioning candidates or motion vectors based on template matching costs for geometric prediction mode (GPM) is provided. A video coder receives data to be encoded or decoded as a current block of a current picture of a video. The current block is partitioned into first and second partitions by a bisecting line defined by an angle-distance pair. The video coder identifies a list of candidate prediction modes for coding the first and second partitions. The video coder computes a template matching (TM) cost for each candidate prediction mode in the list. The video coder receives or signals a selection of a candidate prediction mode based on an index that is assigned to the selected candidate prediction mode based on the computed TM costs. The video coder reconstructs the current block by using the selected candidate prediction mode to predict the first and second partitions.

    Abstract: Encoding methods and apparatuses comprise determining parameters of a specific process for a current slice, signaling in one or more Adaptive Parameter Sets (APSs), performing the specific process using the parameters, signaling an APS ID of each signaled APS in a slice header, and encoding the current slice. Each APS is classified into a category according to a type of data carried by the APS. The APS ID of each signaled APS is counted in a category associated with the specific process and is independent of other categories. Decoding methods and apparatuses comprise parsing an APS ID of each referenced APS from a slice header of a current slice for a specific process, determining parameters from each referenced APS according to the parsed APS ID and a category associated with the specific process, performing the specific process on the current slice and decoding the current slice.
