    摘要: A direct smelting plant that includes an effective and reliable solids feed means for injecting solid feed materials, particularly carbonaceous material, into a direct smelting vessel of the plant is disclosed. The solid feed means is characterised by independent supply of carbonaceous material to injection lances. The independent supply of carbonaceous material minimises the possible adverse impact of a a breakdown of one or more than one lance or a breakdown of the carbonaceous material injection means for that lance or lances.

    摘要: An integrated barrier and seed layer that is useful for creating conductive pathways in semiconductor devices. The barrier portion of the integrated layer prevents diffusion of the conductive material into the underlying dielectric substrate while the seed portion provides an appropriate foundation upon which to deposit the conductive material. The barrier portion of the integrated layer is formed of a metal nitride, while the seed portion is formed of ruthenium or a ruthenium alloy. The metal nitride forms an effective barrier layer while the ruthenium or ruthenium alloy forms an effective seed layer for a metal such as copper. In some embodiments, the integrated layer is formed in a way so that its composition changes gradually from one region to the next.

    摘要: Systems and methods are provided for the manipulation of a polarizable object with a pair of elongated nanoelectrodes using dielectrophoresis. The nanoelectrodes can be carbon nanotubes and are coupled with one or more time-varying voltage sources to create an electric field gradient in a gap between the nanotubes. The gradient induces the movement of a polarizable object in proximity with the field. The nanotube pair can be used to trap a single polarizable object in the gap. A method of fabricating a nanoelectrode dielectrophoretic system is also provided. Applications extend to self-fabricating nanoelectronics, nanomachines, nanochemistry and nanobiochemistry. A nanoelectrode dielectrophoretic system having an extended nanoelectrode for use in applications including the self-fabrication of a nanowire, as well as methods for fabricating the same, are also provided.

    摘要: An improved enteral formulation that is low in fat and contains protein hydrolysates has been developed. The osmolality of the formulation is controlled to be below 500 mOs/kg H.sub.2 O, preferably about 300 mOs/kg H.sub.2 O. In a preferred embodiment, the formulation contains corn starch to control blood glucose levels. This formulation is particularly useful for treatment of critically ill patients and in minimizing a risk of pulmonary aspiration and/or gastrointestinal dysfunction in such patients.
